The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Hon. Hon. Zoch gave the assurance when he received the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Alhaji Abubakar Sanusi Yakubu, and members of the Guild’s leadership on a courtesy visit at the National Assembly, Abuja.
During the meeting, the lawmaker pledged to champion legislative initiatives aimed at repositioning the acting profession through the institutionalisation of standard contractual frameworks for actors, improved welfare and social protection mechanisms, enhanced professional safeguards against exploitation, and structured capacity-building programmes designed to equip Nigerian actors to compete effectively in the global creative marketplace.
He commended the Guild’s renewed commitment to professionalism and institutional development, assuring the delegation of his readiness to work closely with the leadership of the Guild in advancing policies that will strengthen Nigeria’s creative economy and improve the welfare of practitioners.
A major highlight of the visit was the presentation of a Certificate of Nomination to Hon. Gabriel Saleh Zoch as a National Patron of the Actors Guild of Nigeria by the National President, Alhaji Abubakar Sanusi Yakubu.
Presenting the certificate, the AGN President expressed profound appreciation to the Chairman for graciously accepting the nomination and for his unwavering commitment to supporting the Guild’s legislative agenda. He noted that the acceptance of the honour by Hon. Zoch reflects a shared vision of building a stronger, more professional, and globally competitive Nigerian film industry.
Alhaji Yakubu further appealed for sustained collaboration with the National Assembly in enacting progressive legislation that would provide a robust legal framework for the protection, welfare, and professional advancement of Nigerian actors.
The AGN delegation to the National Assembly included the Guild’s Vice President, North Central, Nazareth Jesse Bako; Mayor of Abuja, Mercy Salma Salami; the President’s Spokesman, Benedict Johnson; and Queen Sera Bulus.
The visit marks another significant step in the Guild’s ongoing engagement with critical stakeholders as it seeks to deepen institutional partnerships and drive reforms that will secure a more sustainable future for Nigeria’s acting profession and the broader creative industry
