LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES COMPLIMENTARY TRANSPORTATION INITIATIVE FOR POLICE OFFICERS, AIG REPRESENTS IGP AT LAUNCH | Blissful Affairs Online
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Lagos, AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom psc fdc mspsp MNIM FCAI, on 9 September 2026, represented the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc+, NPM, at the official launch of a complimentary transportation initiative introduced by the Lagos State Government in recognition of the sacrifices and invaluable contributions of police officers to the peace, security and development of Lagos State.
The initiative, conceived through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation Logistics, is aimed at providing police officers with complimentary access to the State’s integrated public transportation system for a period of three months.
As part of the initiative, 2,000 Cowry Cards were formally handed over to AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom, psc fdc mspsp MNIM FCAI, who received them on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc+, NPM.
The Cowry Cards will provide police personnel with three months of unlimited complimentary transportation across the Lagos State integrated public transportation network, covering the Blue Line Rail, Red Line Rail, Electric Water Boats and BRT buses.
At the expiration of the three-month complimentary period, the Lagos State Government has further proposed a 50 per cent fare discount for police officers across the integrated public transportation system.
The initiative forms part of activities marking the 3rd Anniversary of the Lagos Blue Line Rail and represents a significant gesture of appreciation towards police officers who daily protect lives and property and contribute immensely to the safety and security of Lagos State.
Speaking at the occasion, AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom, while conveying the warm appreciation of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc+ NPM, commended the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for the thoughtful initiative and his continued commitment to the welfare of police officers.
The AIG noted that the gesture demonstrates the Lagos State Government’s recognition of the sacrifices made by police officers in maintaining peace, protecting lives and property, and ensuring a safe and secure environment for residents, businesses and visitors across the State.
He further commended the Lagos State Government for its sustained support towards police welfare through various interventions facilitated by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) and other initiatives aimed at improving the wellbeing and operational effectiveness of police personnel.
On behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, the AIG also appreciated the Ministry of Transportation and Logistics for spearheading the initiative, noting that access to affordable and reliable transportation would significantly ease the daily transportation burden on police officers and serve as a morale booster.
He equally acknowledged other initiatives supporting police personnel, including interventions in healthcare, vision and dental care, educational support and financial empowerment, describing them as commendable examples of institutional partnership and support for security personnel.
The AIG further expressed appreciation to Air Peace for its continued support and recognition of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly through rebates for police officers on local and international routes and the special preference accorded to police personnel during boarding.
He urged other State Governments, corporate organisations and well-meaning Nigerians to emulate such initiatives by investing in the welfare of police officers and other security personnel, stressing that a well-supported police workforce is better positioned to discharge its responsibilities effectively.
The AIG noted that the transportation initiative would not only ease the financial burden on police officers but would also further strengthen the existing partnership between the Lagos State Government and the Nigeria Police Force in the collective pursuit of public safety, security and good governance.
