WINNERS EMERGE AT THRILLERBANDZ@THEATRE LIVE BAND COMPETITION

… As LASG Promises Bigger Platform for Live Band Singers

Three winners have emerged at a recent live band competition endorsed by the Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, where over 40 live band singers competed for cash rewards and musical instruments over the weekend.

The musical competition, held at one of Nigeria’s biggest cultural monuments for festival activities, the National Theatre, was won by Adeleke Agboola (a.k.a Handsome Leke Jummy), while Abimbola Omoyemi (a.k.a Oyinlomo Diamond) and Abiodun Ajadi (a.k.a Epenesa) emerged as the first and second runners-up respectively.

The singers thrilled the audience and music lovers at the event to scintillating 12 hours back to back musical renditions staged to redirect public attention to the importance and relevance of Live Band music.

Speaking during the musical competition packaged by Evergreen Musical Company Ltd, in collaboration with National Theatre, Iganmu, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Solomon Bonu, promised continuous support for Live Band activities in Lagos State.

Bonu averred that Live Band music made Lagos tick in the early years, hence the need to sustain the idea of the live band so that the legacies of the iconic live-band musicians can be kept alive. He commended the organisers of the event for using such platforms to expose upcoming musicians to the songs of veterans in live band music in Lagos State.

The Special Adviser, who was moved by the musical performances especially the performance by Nifemi Gold, a physically challenged gospel musician, pledged to personally support the career of the gospel artiste, just as the Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs. Yetunde Arobieke also pledged to donate a modern wheelchair for use by the musician.

Bonu disclosed that plans are in place by the Ministry to stage a larger show that would incorporate many other live band musicians as a way to further make members of the public appreciate quality music, especially live band songs.

Earlier, the Chief Host of the event and General Manager of National Theatre, Professor Sunny Enessi Ododo, assured all the upcoming musicians and others at the event that the National Theatre will be hosting more cultural activities in the New Year and enjoined all to be part of the new beginning.

The Managing Director of Evergreen Musical Company, Bimbo Esho, thanked all the participants and supporters of the show for their support, sacrifices and consistency.

Music Veterans and aficionados like Yinka Davies, Stella Monye, Kola Ogunkoya, Obafemi Edwards, Yemi Sodimu and Music Producer, Mr. Laolu Akins, also attended the competition and shared their experiences with the upcoming artists.
