Gentlemen of the Press,The Lagos State Police Command remains steadfast and unwavering in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Lagos State through proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, strategic crime prevention initiatives, and swift responses to emerging security threats.In line with this mandate, the Command recorded notable operational successes within the month of September 2026, resulting in the arrest of criminal suspects involved in armed robbery, cultism, unlawful possession of firearms, and other violent crimes.
These operations also led to the recovery of firearms, ammunition, stolen items, and other incriminating exhibits.
These achievements further demonstrate the Command’s determination to sustain public safety and ensure that Lagos remains hostile to criminal elements.
Within the period under review, the Command arrested thirty-two (32) suspects and recovered the following exhibits: 1. 43 recovered vehicles and two (2) vehicle keys
2. Vandalised electrical wire
3. ₦2.5 million cash
4. Five (5) pump-action guns
5. Five (5) locally made pistols
6. 20 live ammunition/cartridges
7. 15 expended ammunition
8. Two (2) cutlasses
9. Assorted suspected criminal charms
10. One (1) television set
11. One radiator
12. One car jack
13. A bag containing different vehicle spare parts and toolsCASES:MURDER:
On 26/09/2026 at about 1420hrs, while on stop-and-search duty along Olugbede Street, Egbeda, Police officers signalled a Lexus ES 350, registration number FKJ 223 KX, driven by Olumide Olusola, male, 21 years, to stop.
The driver initially stopped but suddenly sped off as Sergeant Johnson Okediji approached the driver’s side.
The officer was knocked down and dragged underneath the vehicle for several metres despite repeated attempts by police officers and passers-by to make the driver stop.
The driver was eventually chased and arrested. The officer sustained multiple fractures and serious head injuries.
He was taken to a nearby hospital and subsequently referred to LASUTH, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead on arrival.
His remains have been deposited at Mainland Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while the vehicle has been recovered to the station.
ENFORCEMENT ON COVERED NUMBER PLATES AND UNREGISTERED VEHICLES: In continuation of the Command’s enforcement efforts against vehicles with covered number plates and unregistered vehicles, operatives carried out an early-morning enforcement operation today, during which over 41 vehicles were impounded for covered number plates, and non-vehicle registration.
Further checks and enforcement actions are ongoing.
ARREST OF ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT: Today, 28/09/2026 at about 0400hrs, while on routine patrol along Oko Oba Road, Police operatives intercepted some hoodlums who immediately took to their heels on sighting the Police.
One Ojo Azeez, male, 32 years, was arrested after a hot chase. A search conducted on him led to the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size pistol, one radiator, one jack, one engine block and a bag containing different vehicle spare parts and tools.
Investigation is ongoing to establish the source of the recovered items and the suspect’s involvement in other criminal activities.
ARMED ROBBERY: On 26/09/2026 at about 0500hrs, information was received that some armed men, reportedly armed with an AK-47 rifle, drove into Ghost and Spirit Lounge, Ekoro Road, Abule Egba, in a grey Mercedes-Benz GLK SUV and robbed a male individual of his gold wrist chain and rings. Investigation subsequently led to the arrest of Ezekiel Sunday Obi, male, 29 years, at about 0100hrs on 27/09/2026 at the Toll Gate, Lagos-Ogun boundary. Efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang and recover the exhibits.CONSPIRACY AND STEALING: On 26/09/2026,S information was received that a group of boys had moved from Idi-Oro, Mushin, to the Chevron area of Lekki-Ajah, where they allegedly entered residential apartments and dispossessed occupants of their valuables.
Anti-Crime Patrol operatives were mobilised to Idi-Oro, where Ogunbayo Abdulwahib, male, was arrested.
He led the operatives to Muritical Hotel and Suites, Anu Oluwapo Street, Idi-Oro, where ₦2.5 million and three mobile phones were recovered from the room he lodged with other gang members, who had fled before the arrival of the police.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.ARREST OF SUSPECTED ROBBERS/RECOVERY OF FIREARMS:
Acting on credible intelligence, VCRU operatives arrested Lekan Jimoh, 32 years; Oyepeju Olanrewaju, 33 years; and Olurebi Suleiman, 30 years, in the Idi-Oro area of Mushin. Information obtained during interrogation led to the recovery of a black pump-action gun and 11 live cartridges at Igbogbo, Ikorodu, from Banjo Taiwo, male, 47 years. Further investigation led to the arrest of Ebuka Benedict, male, 26 years, at Olorunsogo, Mushin, from whose room one locally made Beretta pistol and four live 9mm ammunition were recovered.
The suspect also reportedly confessed to membership of the Eiye confraternity. Investigation is ongoing.
ARREST OF SUSPECTED CULTISTS: Following sustained intelligence gathering and with the assistance of community stakeholders, Femi Ishola, male, 35 years, and Daniel Luke, male, 27 years, who had been on the Command’s watchlist following previous arrests of suspected members of their group, were arrested at Ganyigbo Beach Yard.
Both suspects have reportedly made confessional statements admitting membership of the Eiye confraternity. Investigation continues.
UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARM:
Acting on credible intelligence, Sijuade Alade, male, 53 years, was arrested in the Ojo area of the State. One locally made pistol was recovered from him during a search.
Investigation is ongoing to establish how he came about the firearm and his possible connection to criminal activities.
BREAKING AND ENTERING/STEALING:
Following a distress call from the Agric area of Epe, police operatives arrested Joshua Benard, male, 27 years, in possession of building electrical wires suspected to have been stolen.
He is currently undergoing interrogation.
BREAKING, LOOTING AND DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY:
Following a distress call from the Ejigbo–Idimu Road area, police operatives swiftly responded and arrested six suspected hoodlums: Ayomide Odusanya, male, 18 years; Michael Olushi, male, 18 years; Victor Denis, male, 20 years; Favour Obaji, male, 18 years; and Jamiu Isah, male, 16 years.
Two cutlasses and one stolen television set were recovered from the suspects, who are currently undergoing investigation.
UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARM/PUBLIC DISTURBANCE:
Following intelligence-led efforts by police operatives, with the assistance of the Civilian JTF, one Kole Josu, male, 26 years, a carpenter, was arrested in Badagry in connection with alleged unlawful possession of a firearm and causing public disturbance.
The suspect is alleged to have used the firearm to terrorise unsuspecting members of the community.
Two victims have so far come forward to make statements, while the suspect has made useful statements. Investigation is ongoing.
ARREST OF CULTISTS, RECOVERY OF FIREARM, VEHICLE AND CRIMINAL CHARMS:
Operatives of the command, acting on credible intelligence, arrested 12 suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity in the Imeke area of Badagry.
The suspects, aged between 23 and 49 years, allegedly admitted to being members of the group and were reportedly holding various positions within the organisation.
Recovered from them were one Mercedes-Benz, one Lexus car key, one Mercedes-Benz car key, one locally made cut-to-size gun and several suspected criminal charms.
Following investigation, seven of the suspects have been charged to court, while investigation continues to recover additional arms and apprehend other members of the group.
ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARMS COURIER AND RECOVERY OF FIREARMS:
Following intelligence-led operations, Police operatives arrested Taiye Majekodunmi, male, 15 years, at the Capa area of Oshodi, while allegedly transporting concealed firearms and ammunition inside a loaf of bread for delivery to a receiver on the instruction of one Samuel.
Recovered from him were one locally made fabricated Beretta pistol, four rounds of unexpended 9mm ammunition and one locally made single-barrel cut-to-size gun.
Further investigation led to the recovery of an additional cut-to-size gun and 11 unexpended cartridges allegedly linked to the suspect.
The suspect has made useful statements.The Command will continue to protect our personnel who are lawfully carrying out their duties, just as we will continue to hold accountable any personnel whose conduct falls short of the standards expected of a police officer.
I commend our officers and operatives for these breakthroughs and appreciate members of the public for their continued cooperation and timely provision of credible information.
