THE MAJOR INVESTIGATIVE BREAKTHROUGHS, OPERATIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS, AND CRIME-FIGHTING SUCCESSES RECORDED BY THE FCID ANNEX, LAGOS, BETWEEN 30 MARCH AND 25 JUNE 2026.

Gentlemen of the Press,

The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) is one of the Departments of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). FCID, headed by a Deputy Inspector General of Police, at the Force Headquarters, is saddled with the investigation of high-profile cases.

There are four Annexes under the FCID located at Enugu, Gombe, Kaduna and Lagos. FCID Annex Lagos, under my watch, is committed to combating crime, protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, safeguarding legitimate businesses, and ensuring that perpetrators of criminal activities are brought to justice in accordance with the extant laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and States.On assumption of duty on 30 March 2026, as the Assistant Inspector General of Police, I committed to improving the investigative capacity of personnel through training, infrastructural upgrade, and robust collaboration with relevant stakeholders for enhanced service delivery and winning the hearts and minds of members of the public and elicit their trustc. In furtherance of the foregoing, in addition to in-house trainings through weekly leadership meetings with Sectional Heads, general lectures by the AIG, and the Officer In Charge, Legal Directorate, on principles of investigation, respect for human rights, and ethical conduct, the Annex has trained thirty (30) detectives on Crypto Tracing Analysis and Investigation, in collaboration with the United States (US) Diplomatic Security Services, Regional Security Office and Internal Revenue Service, through the US Consulate General, Lagos. Six (6) personnel have benefited from the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, training of Enhancing Professional Capacity, Ethical Standard and Inter Agency Collaboration for Effective Operations, while sundry trainings have been scheduled by the IGP, in which personnel have been nominated.

In the area of infrastructure upgrade, some legacy projects are ongoing. These include the construction of the sentry slab, photo stand, installation of a solar system to light the general area, the office’s signage, and renovation of the holding cells. In the area of welfare, personnel are granted leaves and permission to attend to pressing family needs.

They are advised to undertake regular medical checks and fully utilise the Police Medical services at Falomo and the Clinic at the Annex.

To enhance robust collaboration with stakeholders, the AIG has visited revered royal fathers, the Honourable Chief Judge of Lagos State, the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, the Zonal Assistant Controller General of Corrections, Zone A, the Comptroller of Immigration, Lagos State Command, and attended the Nigerian Army Women Command Quarterly Workshop, at Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration.

The Annex has hosted His Excellency the Consul General of the Republic of Lebanon, Mansur Chaya, the Director Investigation and Enforcement/Chairman Federal Task Force, National Agency For Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) Dr. Martins Iluyomade, fsi, the Nigerian Bar Association, Lagos Branch, National Association Nigerian Students, Southwest Chapter, National Association Northern Nigerian Students, and various socio-cultural Associations.

In the area of investigation, a total of One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty-Two (1762) letters of complaint were received during the period under review. Eighteen (18) were referred to the various State Commissioners of Police to treat.

Nineteen (19) were referred for comments by the various Sectional Heads, while One Thousand Seven Hundred and Twenty-Five (1725) were referred for investigation and report. Fifty-six (56) cases were concluded and processed in various courts, while the outstanding cases are at various stages of investigation and legal vetting and advice.

The INTERPOL rescued forty-five (45) persons from traffickers. Four (4) Human Trafficking Suspects were arrested, four (4) arrested on Watchlist/Red Notice, two (2) were arrested outside the country and brought in-country, and three (3) persons repatriated. Gentlemen, permit me to mention recent significant successes by the FCID Annex, Lagos.

These are cases involving vandalism of telecommunication infrastructure, unlawful possession of firearms, criminal counterfeiting of products, and obtaining money by false pretence.

CASE I: ARREST OF SUSPECTED TELECOMMUNICATION FACILITY VANDALS AND RECOVERY OF FIREARM, STOLEN ITEMS, AND VEHICLES

Following credible intelligence regarding the activities of a criminal syndicate specialising in the vandalism and theft of telecommunication infrastructure within the Ayobo area of Alimosho Local Government Area, Lagos State, operatives of the FCID Annex, Lagos, swung into action on 19 June 2026, at about 02:00 hrs.

The operation culminated in the arrest of the following male suspects:i. Ezekiel Omoloye, 46 years;ii. Olaoluwa Shuwunmi, 44 years; andiii. Olaleye Kehinde, 41 years.The following exhibits were recovered:i.

One locally made pistol;ii. One live cartridge;iii. One Deep Sea electronic memory device;iv. Four Riyar solar batteries;v. Six solar modules;vii. One cable cutter;viii. One large wrench;ix. One large iron cutter;x.

Two bundles of ropes;xi. One tricycle with registration number FST 552 QQ;xii. One Bajaj tricycle with registration number KNN 528 Ogun State; xiii. One Toyota Camry vehicle, ash colour, with registration number LSD 576 CL.Xiv: One Toyota Sienna Bus Reg No: LSS 599 JN Preliminary investigation indicates that the recovered items were employed in the vandalism of telecommunication installations and other critical infrastructure across Lagos State.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate, while the suspects will be charged in court on relevant charges.

CASE II: ALLEGED ILLEGAL IMPORTATION AND CRIMINAL COUNTERFEITING OF BABY SECRET CREAM

The Department is also investigating a case involving allegations of conspiracy and counterfeiting of products following a petition received from Flawless Cosmetics alleging the illegal importation and counterfeiting of the company’s trademark product known as Baby Secret Cream. Investigations revealed that a warehouse located at Shop 30, Sambisa Area, Balogun Trade Fair Market, Lagos, which had previously been identified and marked as the subject of an ongoing investigation, was allegedly unlawfully accessed, and a substantial quantity of products believed to relate to the case was removed from the premises.

The investigating team has recovered three hundred and thirty-one (331) cartons of counterfeited products branded as Baby Secret Cream from a warehouse within the Trade Fair Market area of Lagos State.

Some unsuspecting peddlers of the alleged counterfeit products were arrested and are assisting the investigators in locating additional storage facilities, recovering further relevant exhibits, and apprehending the fleeing mastermind of the illegal importation and counterfeiting of Baby Secret Cream.

CASE III: OBTAINING MONEY BY FALSE PRETENCE, CHEATING, AND ILLEGAL PROCUREMENT OF ABORTION

The Department is also investigating a case of alleged Obtaining Money by False Pretence, Cheating, Conspiracy, and Illegal Procurement of Abortion reported through a petition submitted by Mr Olajide against his fiancée, Miss Onyekachi Winner Mmerichukwu, aged 22 years.

The petitioner alleged that the suspect falsely represented to him that she was pregnant and subsequently obtained various sums of money from him under the guise of antenatal care, medical treatment, and other pregnancy-related expenses.

The total amount allegedly obtained during the period under review is Sixteen Million, One Hundred and Seventy Thousand Naira (₦16,170,000.00).Discreet investigation led to the arrest of the accused person and a nurse attached to a private medical facility.

In addition, the investigation revealed that the pregnancy was allegedly terminated at approximately five months’ gestation at a medical facility in Ajah, Lagos, and that the procedure was allegedly carried out for personal reasons and not on grounds of medical necessity or threat to life.

The two suspects have been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, while the investigation is ongoing to arrest the Medical Director of the suspect hospital, who admittedly procured the illegal abortion in conjunction with the nurse.In conclusion, I most sincerely thank the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc+ NPM, for the opportunity to serve as the Assistant Inspector General of Police, FCID Annex, Lagos. On behalf of officers and men of the Annex, I further pledge our undivided loyalty and commitment to the IGP’s policy of people-centric policing, respect for human rights and liberties, rule of law.I thank the DIG FCID, DIG Margaret Agebe Ochalla, for her guidance and support in cascading the IGP’s policing agenda, for the overall effective service delivery of the Department.

I thank the well-meaning members of the public for the tremendous cooperation in the course of our duties. Appreciation goes to financial institutions, government agencies, judiciary, sister law enforcement agencies, corporate bodies, and individuals for the timely response to enquiries in furtherance of our investigation activities.

The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Lagos, wishes to reassure members of the public that all suspects found culpable at the conclusion of investigations will be prosecuted diligently in courts of competent jurisdiction in accordance with extant laws.
