The Honourable Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, on Tuesday, inspected the State Government urban renewal projects within Somolu Local Government and Bariga Local Council Development Area of the State.
According to the Commissioner, the projects were designed to upgrade the otherwise blighted areas and enhance the value of property therein, stressing that some of the features of the road projects in the area include Paved Stones, Drainage, Walkways on both sides and Water Hydrants among others.
Salako stated that the essence of the inspection exercise was to ascertain the level of work done and prepare the projects for eventual handover to the beneficiaries whom he urged to take ownership.
He explained that the ongoing construction of interconnecting roads on Onajimi, Ajiwun and Awofodu Streets in Somolu Local Government Area as well as the construction of Arobadade Channel and the interconnecting roads of Ayoka Street, Ososa Avenue, Ososa Crescent and Ifelodun Street in Bariga LCDA are vital projects that will improve the socio-economic development of the area.
The Commissioner averred that the projects, which are at an advanced stage of completion, are being executed by the Lagos State Urban Renewal Authority, LASURA, as part of the urban renewal strategy blueprint of the T.H.E.M.E.S. agenda, particularly the Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy pillar.
Others on the inspection team included the Special Adviser to the Governor on Urban Development, Mr. Ganiyu Adele Ayuba; the Permanent Secretary, Arc. Foluso Dipe and General Manager, LASURA, Tpl. Ajibike Shomade.
