The Nigerian Police Force has been extremely active since it’s formation in the 60s. Inculcated into the force are women with strength, zeal and valour.
AIG Margaret Ochalla was appointed to the Nigeria Police Force as a young cadet and has
served in various capacities. Her first posting was in Anambra State where
she did her mandatory one-year attachment at CPS Awka Division and was later posted to CPS Abagana after completion of her mandatory one-year
attachment. The young cadet officer was later transfer back to the state command Headquarters to head Secret Registry. Her hard work earned her
the position of a Personal Assistant to four different commissioners of Police, including as Officer In-Charge of the Monitoring Unit in Anambra and Team
Leader of the IGP Monitoring Unit in Abuja. Her exemplary service led to her promotion and appointment to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of
Police where she served as the Force Gender Unit / Advisor to the Inspector General of Police. She was later recommended for a special promotion due to her excellent performance and achievement to the Deputy Commissioner of Police. Force Gender Unit/Advisor to the Inspector General of Police. She was later promoted to the rank of a Commissioner of Police and was posted
to head the Anti-Fraud Unit of the Force CID Abuja. Margaret Ochalla was later transferred to Special Fraud Unit, Milverton, Ikoyi, Lagos where she did a tremendous work and was tagged “crime buster of the year”. Her
achievement in Special Fraud Unit got her to this envious position of
Assistant Inspector General of Police, Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos. Ever since her posting to Force Headquarters Annex Lagos, she has revived the place and given it a new face look.
Her proactive moves in the NPF are legendary and commendable. She remains the bravest police woman officer in Nigeria.
AIG Margaret Ochalla
participated in various training programs both
locally and internationally, such as Training of Trainers on Gender Based Violence, in Karen Kenya, 35th Meeting of Interpol Specialized Group of
Crime Against Children, Lyon France. She also attended the regional training (TOT) workshop for law enforcement officials on freedom of expression and
safety of journalists in Mombasa, Kenya. Another training on crime prevention for senior Police officers on crime prevention in China Police College Ghuangu China. She has also been attending the United Nation General Assembly on Women Status in New York, USA (CSW) since 2016 till date. Further enhancing her expertise in law enforcement and community safety. Her commitment to service and gender advocacy continues to inspire
many in her field.
She hails from Yala in Ogoja, Cross-River State, Nigeria. She has made significant contribution to the Nigeria Police Force. Ochalla
graduated from Nnamdi Azikiwe University as a sociologist, another B.Sc in Conflict Resolution and refugee management and later earned a Master’s
degree in Peace and Conflict Resolution.
AIG Margaret Ochalla has also been attending the United Nations
General Assembly on Women Status in New York, USA (CSW) since 2016 till date. Further enhancing her expertise in law enforcement and community safety. Her commitment to service and gender advocacy continues to inspire
many in her field. Margaret Ochalla is a philanthropist who has touched so many lives both withing the force and outside the force. Just of recent, she
donated food materials and money to all the junior officers from the rank of constables to the rank of Inspectors numbering about 250 officers in the
Force Headquarters Annex.
