Akhigbe Unity 38, on Friday, appeared in Oredo Magistrates’ Court in Benin, for allegedly stealing a Mitsubishi bus valued N1.2 Million.
The defendant is being tried for one count charge of stealing.
The police Prosecutor, Insp David Akhigbe, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 23, 2020 at No 4b, Ogbomo street, off pole street Sapele Road, Benin city.
Akhigbe alleged that the defendant, Unity had on the said date, did with contract induced by false pretence obtained and stole one white Mitsubishi L 300, No GAR31ZY with Chassis No is JMBGZP05YA002382 and Engine No 4D56HK, adding that the vehicle valued N1.2Mn property of Mr Elvis Omosefe, husband of Mrs Isioma Omosefe.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 390(9), of the Criminal Code Cap. 48 Vol. 11, Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976, now applicable in Edo.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Victoria Oyekpen, admitted the defendant on bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum, adding that the surety must be resided within jurisdiction.
Oyekpen, then adjourned the case until March 25, for hearing.
