LASURA ENGAGES OTUMARA STAKEHOLDERS ON REGENERATION PLAN OF COMMUNITYIn a bid to get the buy-inof the members of Otumara Community towards the successful intervention and regeneration of the slum community, the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA) held a stakeholder meeting with the Bale, Landlords and Residents of the Community at the Agency’s Office in Ikeja.Speaking at the forum, the General Manager of the Agency, Ms. Ajibike Shomade, disclosed that Otumara, a slum community in Lagos Mainland, was one of those selected by the government for improvement and upgrade.According to her, “The settlement was grossly deficient of necessary infrastructural facilities for human habitation, even though the community and Otto were close to National Theatre, which is currently undergoing renovation. The renovation of National Theatre would not be complete if the regeneration of Otumara and Otto Communities were not done to complement Federal Government efforts of renovating the Theatre”.She noted that the Agency has decided to prepare an improvement plan to regenerate the physical environment, while also ensuring the provision of infrastructural facilities and amenities for the community. The General Manager, therefore, urged the stakeholders to give Lagos State Government maximum support for the success of the project, promising that their inputs would be given due consideration during the planning and implementation stages.Speaking on behalf of the community, the Bale of Otumara, High Chief Kehinde Kalejaye thanked the Lagos State Government for choosing the area as one of the communities for improvement. He said the residents of Otumara would give LASURA and Lagos State Government maximum support for the success of the project, which would impact their lives positively.CAPTION:PIX 1: The General Manager of LASURA, Ms. Ajibike Shomade addressing the stakeholders at the meeting, flanked by the Bale of Otumara, High Chief Kehinde Kalejaye (left) and TPL Sulyman Raheem, Head of Urban Planning Development Department of LASURA (right).
