LASPEMA TO DEPLOY TECHNOLOGY IN DATA GATHERING FOR INFORMAL SECTOR

The Lagos State Planning and Environmental Monitoring Agency (LASPEMA) is poised to deploy technology in gathering data on Informal Business activities in Lagos Urban Spaces.

The General Manager of LASPEMA, Tpl. Daisi Oso, spoke on the development when officials of e-Tranzact made a presentation capturing the activities of Informal Sector participants seamlessly, using a technology-driven technique.

Stating the need to adopt the conventional method and new technology to achieve the goal of effective management of the sector in the State, Oso noted that the sector contributes over 80% to the Gross Domestic Product of Lagos State.

Tpl. Oso maintained that the information collated from the informal sector would create a database for other government agencies, reiterating that the use of digital technology will also enhance activities of the informal sector.

He gave an assurance that LASPEMA will embark on advocacy and engagement with the sector players to create enough awareness about the technology.

Earlier, the Head of Informal Business Department, eTranzact, Mr. Ayodeji Afolabi, explained the benefits of the technology-driven, data-gathering technique, stressing that activities of the sector can be monitored real-time online.

In his words: “The technology will ensure the identification of the people to enhance data accessibility and proper revenue management such that money lost to street urchins would get into Government’s coffers. It will also ensure economic enhancement for financial inclusion as the process would be end-to-end digitisation”.
