LASG TASKS LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ON PROFESSIONALISM DURING FESTIVE SEASON

The Lagos State Government has tasked Law Enforcement Officers in the State to demonstrate a high level of professionalism and effectiveness in the discharge of their duties as the festive season rolls in.

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, made the call at the passing-out parade of the Y2021 Training Programme for Law Enforcement Officers organised by the Lagos State Law Enforcement Training Institute (LETI) with the theme: “Law Enforcement Officers as Catalysts to Nation Building and Important First Responders”.

The Governor, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Chief of Staff, Mr. Olawale Musa, reiterated that the conclusion of the Y2021 Mandatory-In-Service Training by LETI is a clear attestation to the unwavering and steadfast commitment of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration to the continuous training and re-training of personnel to achieve excellent service delivery and full implementation of the T.H.E.M.E.S. Agenda for the general good.

Explaining that the duty of law enforcement officers in the Lagos State Public Service is strategic for the growth of socio-economic and commercial activities in a bustling metropolis like Lagos, Sanwo-Olu urged the Law Enforcement Officers to showcase the training acquired on return to their duty posts.

His words: “I need to reiterate that as Law Enforcement Officers, you must be civil in your actions and guide against arbitrariness in the exercise of your powers. This administration takes pride in the Rule of Law and, therefore, will not condone any act of extortion, intimidation and harassment of law-abiding citizens”.

“Always remember that your action must be guided by the operational guidelines, which I believe this training has exposed you to. Let me also assure you of our support, especially in the provision of all the tools and materials you will require in your day to day operations. Your welfare will also continue to be given priority attention”, the Governor advised.

Earlier in his address, the Chief Executive Officer and Head of the Law Enforcement Training Institute (LETI), Dr. Adegboyega Bajulaiye disclosed that the training programme included activities like Team Building, Emotional Intelligence, Conflict Resolution, Crowd Management and use of the newly introduced Body Worn Cameras, Agility Training, Obstacle Crossing, Parade/Drills and others which were handled by facilitators of high repute.

“With Security and Safety as one of the pillars of the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda and Mr. Governor’s belief in the training and retraining of public servants as reflected in the Y2022 Budget, Lagos, therefore, can boast of Law Enforcement Officers that meet the global standard”, Bajulaiye said.

Present at the passing-out parade were stakeholders and representatives of security outfits in the law enforcement sector, such as Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, Vehicle Inspection Service, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, the Nigerian Police and the Army.
