The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), on Sunday, sealed a four-storey building with visible signs of distress at 17, Obadina Street, Lagos Island.

The General Manager of the Agency, Engr. Biola Kosegbe, stated that the Agency, acting on a tip-off from concerned citizens, sent a technical team to the location to ascertain the level of distress, revealing that the officials found out that the building exhibited clear signs of internal distress, which was obvious from the exposed corroded reinforcement.

Engr. Kosegbe added that upon discovery of the defective infrastructure, the building was promptly sealed for further assessment by a team of Structural Engineers from the Agency, while the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory will also conduct appropriate structural stability tests on concrete members in order to avert any mishap.

While noting that the residents have been advised to find alternative accommodation pending the conclusion of all stability tests by the State Government, Kosegbe urged all Lagos residents to be their brothers’ keeper by notifying the Agency of any distressed buildings within their environment.

The General Manager reiterated that the State Government, through the Agency, is determined to ensure that the lives and property of Lagosians are protected through the identification of distressed and prone-to collapse buildings in the State and prevention of hazards to occupants.
