The Lagos State Fire Service, on Tuesday, prevented the escalation of a fire incident and destruction of goods worth millions of naira when firefighters successfully doused the flames that had engulfed the second floor of a three-storey building at Oke-Arin Market on Lagos Island.

The Acting Head, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, who disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists at the scene of the incident, stated that the Agency responded to a distress call at about 10.15hrs in respect of a fire incident at 22, Sanusi Olusi Street, Oke-Arin Lagos.

“The second floor of the three-storey building, which was being used as storage for various kitchen wares, had been engulfed by fire. However, the prompt response by the firefighters from the Sari-Iganmu and Alausa Fire Stations ensured that it was put under control before it could extend to other stores and adjoining buildings”, she said.

While acknowledging that the cause of the fire incident was yet to be determined from preliminary investigation, Adeseye said that affected stores have been cordoned off pending further inquiry while normal business activities have since resumed in the area.

Mrs. Adeseye thanked the Federal Fire Service, Nigerian Police Officers from Ebute-Ero Division and LASEMA for the complementary roles played during efforts to put off the fire.
