LAGOS COMMUNITY COMMENDS SANWO-OLU FOR ROAD PROJECT

… Pleads for Compensation to

Property Owners on ROW

The people of Ije-Odo community in Iba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State have commended the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration for approving a road project that links Ijegun to Ije-Ododo and Abule-Ado areas along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

According to a representative of the stakeholders in the community, the Lagos State Government has consented to their request for the construction of a standard road to link other parts of the metropolis with a view to ending the inconvenience that residents of the community faced in the past.

The Community leader, who pleaded anonymity, said “During rainy seasons, we do experience difficult times commuting from Ije-Ododo to other parts of the State. Many residents of the area usually leave their cars at home or in nearby locations, while wading through the muddy waters on foot to get to their workplaces and other destinations”.

Noting that the new road infrastructure will ease the challenge faced during rainfall, he appealed that government should consider compensating property owners, whose structures will be affected by road construction, and granting some concessions during the demolition of structures to ameliorate the effects of the project.

On insinuations that some of the residents were planning to approach the court, the community leader implored the affected individuals to shelve the proposed plan of seeking litigation so as not to delay or truncate the road project in the interest of public good, stressing that the government has the ability to repossess any land for development or public purposes such as roads and schools.
