IGP Tunji Disu Inaugurates High-Level Steering Committee on Establishment of State Police | Blissful Affairs Online
The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has inaugurated a high-powered Steering Committee on the Establishment of State Police, marking a significant step in the ongoing drive to strengthen Nigeria’s internal security framework and enhance community-based policing nationwide.
The newly constituted committee is chaired by Olu Ogunsakin, Director-General of the National Institute for Police Studies, Jabi, Abuja. A respected authority in policing policy, research, and institutional reform, Prof. Ogunsakin is expected to provide strategic direction and intellectual leadership in guiding the committee’s deliberations.
Serving as Secretary is Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni, who will coordinate the committee’s activities and ensure effective execution of its mandate.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, IGP Disu emphasized that the establishment of the committee reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to professional reform, strategic foresight, and proactive adaptation to emerging security challenges.
He charged members to develop comprehensive policy recommendations, propose necessary legal frameworks, and design a practical implementation roadmap for the structured development of State Police across the federation.
The Inspector-General further noted that the initiative aims to strengthen community-centric policing, improve collaboration with sub-national governments, and reinforce public trust in law enforcement institutions.
The inauguration of the Steering Committee represents a bold and strategic milestone toward modernizing Nigeria’s policing structure and enhancing sustainable internal security nationwide.
