Following the appointment of one of their advisory member, Commonwealth Business Women, Nigeria (CWBN) as congratulated Halima Buba the newly appointed Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of Sun Trust Bank Limited.
According to a Congratulatory letter signed by CEO of CWBN Afoma Adigwe, “congratulations to you on your appointment as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of SunTrust Bank Limited. Everything you have done and accomplished has led to this point and you truly deserve it. Your integrity, diligence and hard work had paid off in the end.”
While wishing her well in her new office, Adigwe expressed optimism that Buba will excel in her new role while she records more success ahead.
Prior to this appointment, Buba rose to the rank of Deputy General Manager in Ecobank Nigeria, in charge of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja and the North. She demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities in building cross-function teams and focused on business development and market expansion.
Her appointment was premised on her years of experience as a financial expert and a seasoned banker with over 20 years of experience in both the private and public sectors with recognizable impressive strides. Commenting on her appointment, she stated that “These are interesting times for us as a country”.
The economy is still in its post-recession phase and the prospects of sustained growth are encouraging. “Being appointed to take over the helms of SunTrust Bank at such a time is both humbling and challenging. She is currently sitting on the board of Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) as a non-executive director and participates amongst other key stakeholders in making critical decisions to ensure that the nation’s wealth is being channelled to optimum use for the future generations of Nigerians.
She is the co-founder of TAJ consortium, a group of dynamic technocrats.
She is a committed humanitarian; Mrs Halima Buba serves as Patron, Community Project Management Committee, Michika.
She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree (BSc) and Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Maiduguri.
She is a Fellow Chartered Institute of Finance and Control of Nigeria, Institute of Capital Market Registrars and Institute of Loans and Risk Management of Nigeria.
She is an honorary member of the Nigerian Chartered Institute of Bankers and had attended various courses.
