The Building Construction Professional Guild has commended the Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako for the assessment visit to Magodo wetland on Tuesday, saying that the visit was consistent with calls for preservation of the buffer zone.

The Coordinator of the Ikosi-Isheri Chapter of the Organisation, Surveyor Tayo Fifo, who gave the commendation in reaction to the Commissioner’s visit, added that members of the association are in support of the visit by a top official of the State Government.

In his words: “The Honourable Commissioner’s visit and his remarks are in tandem with our belief that we must ensure that our communities are safe and our buildings remain resilient. BCPG has consistently held the view that the wetland region was below resilience and, therefore, must remain unapproved for further development.

He pledged that the Guild will continue to support the realisation of the government’s mandate of achieving and maintaining an organised, orderly, livable and sustainable environment.

“We shall continue to support the State Government in ensuring that our communities are properly evaluated, and buildings with least resilience are identified and penalised accordingly”, Fifo stated.

He also urged the State Government not to relent in its efforts of sanitising the built environment which, he said, has received great attention from the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration.
