He commended the traditional leadership for its commitment to peace, unity, and the overall development of the kingdom.
The AIG explained that, in view of his demanding official schedule and the possibility of being unavailable for the forthcoming 25th Coronation Anniversary, he considered it important to visit the palace ahead of the celebration to personally honour His Royal Majesty. He emphasised that human relations, mutual respect, and sustained engagement with traditional institutions remain essential to effective policing and peaceful coexistence.
He also commended the people of Ilogbo for sustaining peace in the community and acknowledged the contributions of one of their sons and regent, CP General Investigation, CP Adebola Ojugbele to promoting cordial relationships and celebrating traditional institutions, including his recent engagement at Ota.
Addressing the broader security situation in the country, the AIG called for unity, peace, and an end to animosity and resentment among citizens. He stressed that national development and security require collective responsibility, mutual understanding, and cooperation among all stakeholders.
He further reaffirmed the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu psc+ NPM to people-centric policing, which prioritises public trust, community engagement, and collaboration between the Police and the people they serve. He reiterated that the Police are an integral part of the community and that sustainable security can only be achieved when citizens and law enforcement agencies work together.
The AIG particularly applauded His Royal Majesty for his commendable initiative in building a police division in his community for the Ogun State Police Command, describing the gesture as a practical demonstration of commitment to community safety and security infrastructure.
In his response, His Royal Majesty, Alayeluwa Oba Barr. Samuel Olufemi Ojugbele, expressed profound appreciation to the AIG for the visit, describing it as a demonstration of respect for traditional institutions and a strong commitment to community relations. He emphasised that the Police require the support and cooperation of the citizens they serve to discharge their responsibilities effectively.
The Kabiyesi urged legal practitioners and other stakeholders to work in synergy with the Police rather than adopt an adversarial approach, stressing that constructive collaboration would strengthen the justice system and improve public safety. He also commended CP GI for his passion and dedication to policing and expressed his willingness to support initiatives aimed at bringing positive reforms to the Nigeria Police Force.
Furthermore, His Royal Majesty emphasised the importance of accountability and effective communication between the Police and members of the public, particularly through appropriate feedback on investigated cases. He noted that timely feedback would strengthen public confidence in the justice system and serve as a deterrent to potential offenders.
As part of his contribution to the engagement, the Kabiyesi presented autographed copies of his book, My Life with Destiny, to the AIG and members of his leadership team. He also advocated increased community participation in police funding, noting that voluntary contributions, even in modest amounts, could collectively support improved security infrastructure and operational capacity.
While acknowledging the efforts of police officers, the monarch observed that inadequate facilities and resources remain challenges affecting effective service delivery. He highlighted the need for improved welfare provisions, including insurance, retirement benefits, housing, and other essential support for personnel. He explained that his decision to construct a police station in his community for the Ogun State Police Command was driven by his desire to contribute meaningfully to security and community development.
The visit reinforced the importance of sustained collaboration among the Police, traditional rulers, legal practitioners, sister security agencies, and community members in building trust, promoting peace, and ensuring a safer society.
The engagement was concluded with the presentation of a commemorative plaque to His Royal Majesty, Alayeluwa, followed by a group photograph with the AIG and his delegation.
