Access Bank Plc has raised an alarm over a fraudulent message currently circulating on WhatsApp and various social media platforms. The viral post maliciously impersonates the financial institution’s official handle and falsely claims that the bank is shutting down its operations.
In a swift reaction, the bank’s management debunked the viral report, describing it as ‘entirely false, malicious, and misleading’. The institution assured its customers, partners, stakeholders, and the general public that the bank remains safe, financially resilient, and fully operational across all its local and international subsidiaries. All banking services continue to run seamlessly without any interruption.

Meanwhile, the bank’s leadership revealed that it is actively collaborating with regulatory bodies and law enforcement agencies to track down the individuals behind the disinformation campaign. The bank’s management emphasized that the fake news was deliberately engineered to trigger panic and disrupt businesses, promising that strict legal actions will be taken against the perpetrators in line with existing laws.
“The public is also reminded that fabricating and sharing false information that causes public alarm or damages corporate reputations is a severe criminal offense. Under Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024, individuals caught generating or distributing such misleading content face heavy legal penalties. Customers and members of the public are strongly advised to disregard the viral message and refrain from sharing or forwarding it to others”, the bank said in a statement.
