OGUN ASSEMBLY COMMISERATES WITH GOV. ABIODUN, SWEARS IN ADEYEMI AS DEPUTY CLERK
Ogun State House Assembly has commiserated with the family of the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun on the departure of their patriarch, Dr. Emmanuel Abiodun, who passed on yesterday at the age of 89, describing his demise as a huge loss to the society.
Oluomo, made the remarks in response to the submission of a member representing Ikenne State Constituency, Kunle Sobukanla who formally briefed the Assembly on the death of the octogenarian under Personal Explanation, shortly after which the Lawmakers observed a minute silence in honour of the deceased.
The Speaker also conveyed the Assembly’s condolence to the family of the late Permanent Secretary, Ms. Oluseye Fatudimu who until her death served in the State Ministry of Community Development and Cooperatives.
In another development, the Assembly today confirmed the appointment of the former Acting Deputy Clerk, Barr. Funmilayo Adeyemi as the substantive Deputy Clerk, thus she was sworn -in, following the administration of oaths of office and allegiance administered on her by Barr. George Oyeniyi.
In another development, Speaker Oluomo has called on security agencies, especially the State Command of the Nigeria Police Force to forestall violent clash that could result into breakdown of law and order around Ibese area of Yewa North Local Government area.
The Speaker made the call, while responding to the submission of a member representing Yewa North I State Constituency, Adegoke Adeyanju, who reported the recent clash between motorcycle riders and Articulated Truck Drivers in the community.
CURBING GENDER BASED VIOLENCE: OGUN LAWMAKERS PLEDGE SUPPORT FOR WOMEN GROUP
In its resolve to further promote a just society devoid of gender discrimination and disparity, the Ogun State House of Assembly has assured women groups in the State of its readiness to partner with all relevant organizations towards enacting legislations that would curb sexual and gender-based violence.
The Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo gave the assurance, while addressing a delegate of women under the aegis of Gender and Constitution Reforms Network (GERCON) led by Dr. Abiola Akinyode in commemoration of the Pan African Women’s Day.
Oluomo noted that members of the Ninth Legislature were irrevocably committed to giving due priority to issues relating to female participation and gender equality with a view to advancing their social and economic status.
Earlier, Dr. Abiola Akinyode stated that the delegation visited the Assembly in recognition of the lawmakers untiring efforts at promoting female participation through passage of bills and resolutions.
In another development, the Assembly’s Committee on Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs has considered the mid-year budget performance of the Ministry of Special Duties with a commendation on the reforms put in place by the present administration towards ensuring a more responsive and effective fire prevention and mitigation through prompt responses to distress calls.
The Committee led by its Vice-Chairman, Solomon Osho applauded the leadership of the Ministry for its administrative efforts towards saving lives and property through spontaneous response to distress call by residents of the State.
Earlier, the Commissioner in charge of the Ministry, Barr. Femi Ogunbanwo said the present administration has renovated fire stations at Onikoko, Ota, Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode in addition to the completion of fire and safety stations at Isheri, Mowe and Ifo with another under construction at Agbara.
Ogunbanwo added that three fire fighting equipment were procured and six fire tender being repaired within the period under review.
