EID-EL-KABIR CELEBRATION: DON’T TRAVEL WITH AN UNSERVICED VEHICLE – LASDRI

The General Manager, Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI), Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu, has appealed to all motorists and professional drivers to refrain from any journey without servicing their vehicles to avoid unnecessary breakdown and prevent loss of lives and property.

Mrs. Tiamiyu made the appeal today while featuring on a Yoruba motoring programme on Traffic Radio 96.1FM, “Bosenlo”, where she spoke extensively on adequate ‘Road Safety Precautions’ during the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

Tiamiyu noted with dismay that during festive periods, most commercial drivers are always in a haste and in the habit of managing an impaired vehicle to embark on journeys that sometimes leads to accidents and loss of lives and property.

In her words: “Managing an already impaired vehicle in this rainy season and travelling for Eid-el-Kabir celebration pose a great threat to life. As a professional driver, the lives of the commuters you are conveying with such a vehicle are in your hands. So, I am appealing to you to regularly check your vehicle well before embarking on any journey”.

The General Manager also advised that those compelled to embark on a journey during this festive period should set out early to avoid driving at night and overspeeding, which can lead to road accidents.

“Check the condition of your vehicle before setting out, don’t manage a faulty vehicle brake, check and replace your tyres if necessary, and make sure you have a fire extinguisher, jack, spanner and C-caution in your vehicle when embarking on a journey. Also, check the engine oil and water in your vehicle radiator before heading out and buy enough fuel that can take you to your destination successfully. All these are safety precautions that cannot be overlooked”, she said.

While enumerating the activities of LASDRI, Tiamiyu said that the institute has also been to parks and garages, as well as corporate organisations, to sensitise them on the need to practice safe driving always by obeying road signs, pavement markings and all traffic rules and regulations.

The General Manager wished all professional drivers a safe and joyous Eid-el-Kabir, enjoining them to also remain in the right frame of mind and avoid drinking and driving, just as they exhibit good etiquette and positive behavioural pattern to other road users.
