. . . As Agency Marks World Environment Day

The Acting Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni has declared that the Agency will spear no effort at delivering a clean and befitting environment for the benefit of all Lagosians.

The declaration was contained in a statement issued today to mark the year 2020 World Environment Day, themed: “Celebrate Biodiversity”, noting that the global event called for proactive measures to address the myriad of environmental challenges facing societies, with attendant negative effects on both plants and animal life.

He said time was ripe for residents to imbibe the culture of recycling and effective waste management, which would go a long way in saving the environment from decadence and depletion of resources.

According to him, “There is a need for behavioural change among residents in a bid to address the environmental issues facing the society. We call on the populace to take adequate care of the environment and shun acts capable of posing undue hazards to it”.

Odumboni reiterated the Authority’s unalloyed commitment to playing its part in establishing cleaner and livable surroundings for both residents and visitors to the State, urging individuals and corporate bodies to join hands with the government in making the environment safer for all.

While appealing to residents to avoid disposing their wastes at unauthorised locations like in drains and road medians, Odumboni submitted that such acts would only worsen the problem of flooding in the State, as the rains are here.

He, therefore, urged Lagos residents to call LAWMA toll-free line on 07080601020 for all inquiries and/or PSP related issues.

Recall that June 5 of every year was set aside by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), to raise global awareness on the need for the sustainability of natural resources.
