The Celebrity Journal Publishers Association of Nigeria (CJPAN) extends its heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Nigeria, the bereaved families, and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The former President passed away in a London clinic on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the age of 82 after a prolonged battle with blood cancer. His remains are expected to arrive in Nigeria today by 12:00 noon, accompanied by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, who led a federal government delegation to London for a condolence visit.
Final burial rites will take place in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, at 2:00 p.m. today. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to be present at the ceremony to pay his final respects.
Speaking on behalf of the association, the President of CJPAN, Mrs. Funmi Olowosegun, described President Buhari as “a gallant officer, patriot, and statesman who served the nation with unwavering dedication.”
She added, “It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that we received the news of the passing of former Nigerian President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Retd.). A soldier and leader, he governed Nigeria first as a military ruler (1984–1985) and later as a democratically elected President (2015–2023). His life was defined by duty, honour, and a steadfast commitment to national unity and progress.
May the Almighty grant his family, friends, and political associates the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss.”
In a related development, CJPAN also mourns the demise of His Royal Majesty, Ọba Sikiru Kayọde Adetọna, the Awùjalẹ̀ of the Ijẹbu Kingdom, who passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the age of 91, barely a day after the death of former President Buhari.
Oba Adetona, who ascended the throne on April 2, 1960, was one of Nigeria’s longest-reigning monarchs and a revered figure in the cultural and traditional landscape of the nation. A proud member of the House of Anikinaiya, his leadership and contributions to the Ijebu Kingdom will be fondly remembered. He has since been laid to rest according to traditional rites.
CJPAN joins the entire nation in mourning these monumental losses and prays for the peaceful repose of their souls.
