
Agriculture: ICAS SIGNS MoU WITH MOUAU FOR CLIMATE ACTION ON SUSTAINABLE FOOD SECURITY | Blissful Affairs Online
The 15th of May 2025, witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) between the Institute of Climate Adaptation and Sustainability(ICAS) and College of Natural Resources and Environmental Management(CNREM), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike(MOUAU) marking the launch pad
to promote research, innovation, community service and capacity-building in climate change mitigation, adaptation and sustainability.
This milestone was achieved after several months of rigorous assessment and college board presentations at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike-Umuahia, Abia state.
Speaking during signing ceremony, the president of ICAS stated that “Climate change Mitigation, Adaptation and Sustainability in Agriculture are crucial for ensuring food security in Africa.
Therefore, Institute of Climate Adaptation and Sustainability(ICAS), Lagos and Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, have already developed unique programmes aimed at addressing the root causes of food insecurity, hunger and crisis in Africa.”
He further stated that “the programmes are aftermath of cutting-edge research activities by renowned experts in the field of Agriculture Value-Chain Optimization, Environmental Management, Climate Change and Sustainability.”
The Dean of College of Natural Resources and Environmental Management(CNREM), Prof. Princewill Ogbonna confirmed that “the programmes will be delivered as hands-on skill set solution for easy application to meet specific needs in the areas of Agriculture, Environment and Climate Change.”
On his own part, the Registrar, Dr. Samuel Ebunlomo Ogbe, also stated that the partnership is geared towards “Bolstering Agricultural production and sustainable livelihood.
Building climate resilience in vulnerable environment for food security and safety.
Activate and sustain community action in eco-friendly micro-enterprise initiatives.
Foster community awareness climate finance in food security and sustainable livelihood inline with UN Sustainable Development Goals.”
The University was represented by the Dean, College of Natural Resources and Environmental Management(CNREM), Prof. Princewill C. Ogbonna and Deputy Dean of the College, Dr. Johnpaul Ikwuemesi; while the Institute of Climate Adaptation and Sustainability(ICAS) was represented by the Co- founder/President, Pastor(Dr.)John Enyinnaya Thompson and Dr. Samuel Ebunlomo Ogbe.
Other members of the board at the university include, Prof. K.C.Ekwe, Prof. Olayinka Ibinwumi Nwachukwu and more.
