CBN Approves Major Shake-Up At Access Bank As Kumapayi Becomes Deputy Managing Director, Bamisebi Takes Over IT And Digitalisation
There is a major leadership shake-up at Access Bank Plc as the lender announces two key executive appointments approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Access Holdings Plc in a disclosure to the Nigerian Exchange Limited on Friday October 31, 2026 confirmed that Oluseyi Kumapayi has been elevated to Deputy Managing Director in charge of African Subsidiaries, while Olanrewaju Bamisebi has been appointed Executive Director for Information Technology and Digitalisation.
Both appointments will take effect from October 27 and October 28, 2026 respectively, marking a strategic move in the bank’s next phase of growth.
Kumapayi, who until now served as Executive Director overseeing African Subsidiaries, will now carry a bigger mandate. Bamisebi on the other hand is moving from Access Holdings Plc where he held the same IT and Digitalisation portfolio to take direct charge of technology transformation inside Access Bank itself.
Management says the changes are part of Access Holdings’ shift from expansion to extracting value from its vast footprint across Africa and selected global markets. The focus now is profitability, capital efficiency, operational excellence and sustainable returns for shareholders.
For Kumapayi, the elevation underlines how important African operations have become to the Group. His job will be to turn market dominance into better earnings, stronger returns on capital, improved operational performance and deeper integration of cross-border businesses. He will also support the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer in overall leadership of the bank.
Kumapayi is no stranger to Access Bank. He joined the bank in 2002 and was Group Chief Financial Officer for 13 years between 2007 and 2020 where he helped strengthen financial management and drive strategic growth. Since November 2020 he has led the African subsidiaries. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, holds an Executive MBA from IMD Switzerland, an Executive Masters in Digital Transformation and Innovation Leadership from IE University Madrid, degrees from University of Lagos and University of Ibadan and is a Harvard Business School alumnus.
For Bamisebi, his appointment signals that Access Bank wants technology leadership to sit at the centre of banking operations, not at the holding company. He will be responsible for modernising and simplifying technology platforms, improving operating efficiency, strengthening cybersecurity and resilience and rolling out digital solutions that improve customer experience while reducing cost to serve.
Bamisebi brings over two decades of experience in technology transformation and digital banking. Before his time at Access Holdings, he served as Group Director of Information Technology and Operations at Equity Group Holdings Limited and Managing Director of Finserve Africa. He was also Group Chief Information Officer at defunct Diamond Bank and held senior technology roles in other major Nigerian financial institutions.
He holds a http://B.Sc in Computing and Information Technology from University of Derby UK, an MBA from Durham Business School, qualifications in Computer Science and Accounting and is an alumnus of Cambridge Judge Business Senior Management Program with several certifications in technology governance and information security.
Group Chairman of Access Holdings, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede said the appointments reflect the Group’s determination to translate scale into superior performance, greater efficiency and stronger returns, with clearer accountability and disciplined technology investment.
On his part, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank, Roosevelt Ogbonna said the bank is focused on building a more productive and efficient institution that makes better use of capital and technology, with emphasis on improving returns across African subsidiaries and simplifying platforms to deliver better outcomes for customers.
