Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has debunked the story making waves in the social media that he was sponsoring 300 guests to attend in Dubai his mother’s 90th birthday celebration.
The story, made popular by Sahara Reporters on Monday, March 2, 2020, alleged that the Gbajabiamila was using public funds to take 300 guests to the United Arab Emirate commercial city for the birthday of his mother, Alhaja Lateefat Olufunke Gbajabiamila.
Close associates of the Speaker, who reacted on his behalf, said, the grand bash was strictly a family affair, with few childhood friends attending on their own, not sponsored. Also, the sources stressed that Gbajabiamila spent his personal, not state money to fund the trip.
”This event was strictly for family members and a few childhood friends for which no public funds were appropriated or expended. And not a single politician or a legislator was present at the event,” declared a close friend of the number-four most powerful Nigerian public official.
