The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Lagos, AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom, psc, fdc, mspsp, MNIM, FCAI, has disclosed major investigative breakthroughs, operational achievements and crime-fighting successes recorded by the Annex between 25 June and 18 September 2026.
Speaking during a press briefing in Lagos, AIG Akpanudom reaffirmed the commitment of the FCID Annex, Lagos, to combating crime, protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, safeguarding legitimate businesses and ensuring that perpetrators of criminal activities are brought to justice in accordance with the extant laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the respective States.
For the benefit of hindsight, the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) is one of the Departments of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), headed by a Deputy Inspector-General of Police at the Force Headquarters and responsible for the investigation of high-profile cases. The FCID has four Annexes located in Enugu, Gombe, Kaduna and Lagos.
The AIG recalled that during his last press parley on 25 June 2026, he provided an update on measures being taken to strengthen the investigative capacity of personnel through training, infrastructural upgrades and robust collaboration with relevant stakeholders, with the aim of improving service delivery, winning the hearts and minds of members of the public and building public trust.
In furtherance of these efforts, seventeen (17) additional personnel underwent specialised training during the period under review. The Annex also sustained its in-house training programmes through weekly leadership meetings with Sectional Heads, general lectures by the AIG and sessions conducted by the Officer in Charge, Legal Directorate, focusing on investigative principles, respect for human rights and ethical conduct.
The AIG further disclosed that he undertook working visits to the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Adeniji Adele, and the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) on 7 September 2026, where he interacted with officers and personnel of the respective units. Customised bulletins have also been placed at strategic locations within the offices to raise awareness among personnel regarding the legal rights of citizens under extant laws.
On infrastructure, the AIG said some legacy projects have been completed, while others are ongoing. Those completed and awaiting commissioning include the sentry slab, photo stand, solar systems in the Charge Room and general areas, provision of visitors’ tags, cabinets for storing visitors’ phones at the Charge Room, office signage, renovation of one set of the holding cells and renovation of the general staff toilets.
He added that outstanding works include the renovation of the second set of holding cells, sundry tiling and painting of the general office areas, which are expected to be completed as soon as possible.
On personnel welfare, the AIG stated that officers and personnel are granted leave and permission to attend to pressing family needs. He also advised personnel to undertake regular medical checks and fully utilise Police medical services at Falomo and the Clinic at the Annex.
The Force Medical Director, AIG Nkechi Eze, paid a working visit to the Clinic at the FCID Annex, Lagos, on 24 August 2026, during which necessary assessments were made towards enhancing medical services available to personnel.
In strengthening collaboration with stakeholders, the AIG and his Leadership Team visited the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Alausa, Ikeja; the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice; and the Directorate of Investigation and Enforcement/Federal Task Force of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Apapa.
He also delivered keynote addresses at the opening ceremony of the August edition of the LSSTF Two-Day Security Training Programme, themed “Enhancing Professional Capacity, Ethical Standard and Interagency Collaboration for Effective Security Operations,” and at the Advocacy Conference of the Voices of Our Society Campaign, organised by Oscar Bravo Productions, Publishers of Blissful Affairs Magazine, on the theme “Strengthening Internal Security: Intelligence, Investigation, and Community Collaboration Against Emerging Threats.”
Within the period under review, AIG Akpanudom also received in audience the Consul General of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, Yan Yuqing; a delegation from Impact Initiative for Youth Mentorship; Arewa Youth Advocacy for Good Governance; and the Liaison Officer, Akwa Ibom State Liaison Office, Lagos.
In the area of investigation, a total of 1,816 letters of complaint were received during the period under review. Nine (9) were referred to various State Commissioners of Police and formations for action, four (4) were refused civil, while 1,803 were referred for investigation and report.
Twenty-four (24) cases were concluded and processed in various courts, while the outstanding cases are at different stages of investigation, legal vetting and advice.
The AIG also disclosed that INTERPOL rescued thirty-six (36) victims of human trafficking, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects connected with the cases. One (1) person was also repatriated.
Highlighting some of the significant cases investigated during the period, AIG Akpanudom disclosed that on 11 August 2026, the FCID Annex received a written petition from PLUTOLORD SOLICITORS, on behalf of ATC Telecommunications Nationwide, alleging that armed hoodlums had attacked, robbed and vandalised telecommunications facilities in parts of the South-East and Lagos States sometime in March, April and May 2026.
According to the petition, the hoodlums allegedly carted away telecommunications equipment and other items, including modules, solar batteries, solar panels and generators, valued at approximately N150 million.
SWAT operatives of the FCID Annex, Lagos, were tasked with investigating the matter. Following what the Police described as prompt, discreet, knowledge-based and intelligence-led investigation, four male suspects were arrested at a shop located at No. 12 Pastor Alabi Close, Kosofe Area, Lagos.
The suspects were identified as Abuchi Odikemere, 29; Anyanwu Emmanuel, 28; Kayode Segun, 28; and Emmanuel Chineku, 17.
Items recovered and identified by the petitioners included two surveillance cameras, 52 solar batteries, one hammer, one chisel, three small solar panels and two solar meters.
The Police said efforts are ongoing to dismantle the alleged syndicate and apprehend other fleeing members, while the suspects in custody will be charged before a court on relevant charges.
The FCID Annex also investigated a case involving alleged conspiracy, shop breaking, malicious damage, stealing and receiving stolen property following a petition from Ashaye Olalekan, of No. 5 Adebare Street, Ogudu Roundabout, Ojota, Lagos State.
The petition, dated 22 May 2026, alleged that the petitioner’s shop was broken into at about 0358 hours on 19 May 2026 by armed hoodlums, who allegedly carted away a vault containing 90 brand-new mobile phones of different makes and models, 42 smart watches, two units of Oraimo speakers, 105 power banks and other phone accessories valued at approximately N20 million.
The hoodlums also allegedly damaged seven Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras installed in the shop, as well as show glasses, the entrance door and other property.
Following investigation, detectives arrested four suspects, comprising three males and one female, who was allegedly involved as a receiver of the stolen property. Some of the stolen items were recovered, including three mobile phones, one power bank, three generators and other electronic devices.
According to the Police, the suspects admitted that most of the stolen phones and accessories had been sold to a trans-border receiver. The suspects have been charged to court accordingly.
Another significant case involved allegations of conspiracy, false publication, fabricating and digitally spreading malicious falsehood, economic sabotage and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.
The case followed a petition dated 30 July 2026 from Country Hill Attorney & Solicitors, of Plot 3B Esther Adeleke Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, on behalf of Access Bank Plc.
The petition concerned a publication dated 28 July 2026, allegedly posted on Facebook by Idorenyin Umoh, purporting to be from Access Bank Plc and claiming that the bank would shut down its operations effective 23 September 2026. The publication allegedly advised customers to close their accounts and withdraw their funds.
The Police said the publication circulated on other social media platforms within a day.
Following discreet investigation, detectives arrested Idorenyin Umoh and her associate, Fineness Monday Esu, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
According to the Police, both suspects admitted membership of a WhatsApp group known as “Queendom,” where Fineness Monday Esu allegedly posted the message on 28 July 2026 at 0904 hours, after which Idorenyin Umoh allegedly copied and posted it on her Facebook account, “Aidee Umoh,” which had more than 12,000 followers.
The suspects have been arraigned on relevant charges before the Federal High Court, Lagos.

On behalf of the officers and personnel of the Annex, he reaffirmed their undivided loyalty and commitment to the IGP’s focused leadership, people-centric policing policy, respect for human rights and liberties, and the rule of law.
He also expressed appreciation to his supervising Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Margaret A. Ochalla, and the Force Management Team, while commending the personnel of the Annex for their dedication and commitment to duty.
The AIG further thanked members of the public for their cooperation and expressed profound appreciation to financial institutions, government agencies, the judiciary, sister law enforcement agencies, corporate bodies, professional bodies, members of the Press and individuals for their timely responses to enquiries in furtherance of the Department’s investigative activities.
The FCID Annex, Lagos, reassured members of the public that suspects found culpable at the conclusion of investigations will be prosecuted diligently before courts of competent jurisdiction and in accordance with extant laws.
The Department remains committed to protecting critical national infrastructure, combating economic sabotage, preventing fraud and strengthening public confidence in the administration of justice.
The AIG urged members of the public to continue providing the Nigeria Police Force with timely, credible and actionable information that can assist in preventing and combating crime.
He reaffirmed that the Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc+, NPM, remains committed to professionalism, diligence, accountability, respect for the rule of law and the protection of lives and property.
