Commission says promotions based strictly on merit after written examinations and oral interviews
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 13 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) in what the Commission described as a merit-based promotion exercise aimed at strengthening professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force.
According to a statement issued by the Commission, the promotions followed the officers’ successful performance in the recently concluded written examinations and oral interviews conducted at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.
The PSC noted that the list of successful officers has already been formally communicated to the Inspector-General of Police for immediate implementation.
Newly Promoted Assistant Inspectors-General of Police
The officers elevated to the rank of AIG include:
Emmanuel Ado Christopher – former Commissioner of Police, Yobe State
Joseph Eribo – former Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State
Dantawaye Miller – former Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory
Uche Ifeanyi Henry – Director, NPF National Cyber Crime Centre
Olarenwaju Peter Ogunlowo – former Commissioner of Police, Ogun State
Muhammad Dahiru – former Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State
Dankombo Morris – former Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State
Bello Shehu – former Commissioner of Police, Katsina State
Ibrahim B. Maikaba – former Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State
Ahmed Musa – former Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State
Olohundare Moshood Jimoh – former Commissioner of Police, Lagos State
Simeon Udofia Akpanudom – former Commissioner of Police, Anti-Fraud Section, FCID Annex Alagbon Close, Lagos
Haruna Olufemi – former Commissioner of Police, Oyo State
17 Deputy Commissioners Promoted to Commissioners of Police
In the same promotion exercise, the Commission also elevated 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to the rank of Commissioners of Police (CPs).

Abbas Sule – DC DFA, INTERPOL
Ojugbele E. Adebola – DC Operations, Zone 2 Lagos

Kayode Uthman Magaji – Community Policing, Research and Planning, Force Headquarters Abuja
Adebisi Bola Lateef – DC DFA, Osun State Command
Markus Ishaku Basiran – DC DFA, Zone 6 Calabar
Silas Bamidele Aremu – DD Administration, Department of Logistics and Supply
Sylvester Onyie Uzoefuna – DC Operations, Cross River State Command
Magaji Ismaila – DC Projects, Police Affairs Bureau, Force Headquarters Abuja

The Commission further approved the promotion of 19 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to Deputy
Commissioners of Police (DCPs). Among the officers elevated in this category are:
Rilwan Shaibu – Police Training School, Nekede
Grace Obiageli Ejiofor – Disaster Management Unit, Force Headquarters Abuja
Ibrahim Ada Yusuf – Idu Railway Command, Abuja
Muazu Imaru Dange – Kano Command
Samuel Ebikebina Dekeme – Bayelsa State Command
In addition, the Commission approved the promotion of 35 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).
PSC Chairman Speaks
While congratulating the newly promoted officers, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Hashimu Salihu Argungu (DIG rtd), described the promotion exercise as a recognition of merit, dedication, and excellence in service.
He urged the officers to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating renewed commitment to effective policing and national security.
“The promotion is not an end but an opportunity to contribute more to the noble task of safeguarding lives and property.
The Commission remains committed to transparency, merit, and adherence to global best practices in all promotion processes,” he said.
Argungu further explained that the Commission maintains strict promotion standards, noting that officers who fail the examination are required to retake it, with retirement applicable after three unsuccessful attempts in accordance with Public Service Rules.
The PSC Chairman also commended members of the Commission’s Board, including Paul Adamu Galumje (Justice of the Supreme Court, rtd), Taiwo Lakanu (DIG rtd), and the Secretary to the Commission, Onyemuche Nnamani, for their support and contributions toward the successful completion of the promotion exercise.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to building a professional, efficient, and accountable Nigeria Police Force through transparent and rigorous promotion processes.
