Delta govt orders traders to stop trading under tension wires, waterways

Delta State Government has warned those trading under high tension wires to relocate with immediate effect.

This is as the state government has warmed it will no longer tolerate such lawlessness.

Frank Omare, Director-General, Special Duties, Governor’s Office, Asaba, gave this warning during a sensitisation tour to the traders at Ughelli main market and Otovwodo market along East-West Road, Ughelli North Council Area.

He described the attitude as insubordination to the state government.

While warning traders to leave with immediate effect as he emphasised the dangers of trading under the high current wires, Omare disclosed that the council chairman, Hon. Godwin Adode, has made a provision inside the market for those trading along the road and the walkway to relocate to without further delay.

“Delta State Government, through the council chairman has made a provision for those trading along the walkway and roadside to do their business. One is inside the provisions market, while the other is along Olotu Road by the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).

“We, therefore, warn everyone trading along the road and walkway to relocate immediately to avoid the wrath of the state government. We know times are hard, things are rough, but we must do the right thing, Delta State wants to beautify Ughelli like other cities in the state.

“Delta State Government will demolish and dredge flood-prone areas in the council area, those who built on natural waterways should remove their buildings, those who do not have approval plans should remove their buildings.”
