FCID ANNEX, LAGOS RECEIVES IMPACT INITIATIVE FOR YOUTH MENTORSHIP, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO YOUTH DEVELOPMENT AND CRIME PREVENTION | Blissful Affairs Online
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, AIG SIMEON U. AKPANUDOM psc fdc mspsp MNIM FCAI, today received a delegation from the Impact Initiative for Youth Mentorship (IIYM) on a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening collaboration in youth mentorship, leadership development, crime prevention and community safety.
The delegation, led by Mr. Victor Cletus Mfon, noted that the Impact Initiative for Youth Mentorship has been in existence for the past nine years and is committed to identifying, nurturing and developing the talents and leadership potentials of young people. He explained that the organisation places particular emphasis on African leadership, responsible citizenship and empowering young people to become positive contributors to national development.
Mr. Mfon stressed that effective mentorship is essential to guiding young people on the right path, particularly at a time when inadequate guidance, negative influences and limited access to positive role models can expose young people to social vices and criminal behaviour. He therefore sought the counsel, mentorship and support of the AIG and his leadership team towards advancing the organisation’s vision.
Membership of the delegation, included Mr. Jonathan Abraham, Coordinator; Mrs. Betty Jobaido, Head of Operations Operations, from Kenya; Ms. Stacy Ubah, a Mentee; Mr. Samuel Igweber; and Mr. Adeoye John, Media Team Members.
The delegation expressed appreciation to the AIG and the FCID Annex Leadership Team for the warm reception accorded to them. Mr. Mfon described IIYM as a non-governmental organisation committed to making meaningful impact in Nigeria, adding that he had followed the AIG’s professional leadership from a distance and had been impressed by the positive impact of his leadership at the FCID Annex, Lagos.
He further used the occasion to formally invite the AIG as Special Guest of Honour and Honouree at the 9th Impact Leadership Conference & Awards 2026, scheduled to hold on Saturday, 3 October 2026, at Oriental Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The conference, themed “Reimagining Nigeria: Youth Leadership, Governance and National Greatness,” is expected to bring together young leaders, public servants, policymakers, business executives, professionals, entrepreneurs and other distinguished stakeholders to engage in meaningful conversations on ethical leadership, responsible citizenship, governance and national development.
Responding, the AIG welcomed Mr. Victor Cletus Mfon and members of the delegation, describing the visit and the initiative as thoughtful, timely and noble. He acknowledged that translating such a vision into a sustainable reality requires commitment, strategic planning and the collective efforts of relevant stakeholders.
The AIG emphasised that effective leadership development must begin with self-awareness, experience, proper mentorship and a clear understanding of the challenges confronting society. He noted that young people must be adequately prepared, guided and exposed to positive values, stressing that the absence of proper mentorship could leave them vulnerable to negative influences, social vices and criminality.
He further observed that the theme of the conference, “Reimagining Nigeria: Youth Leadership, Governance and National Greatness,” is particularly relevant to the present realities of the country. He stressed that the Nigeria we desire must be viewed from different perspectives, with young people adequately equipped to become responsible leaders, good citizens and active participants in nation-building.
The AIG expressed his commitment to supporting the conference and the broader objectives of the Impact Initiative for Youth Mentorship. He observed that where official engagements might prevent him from attending the conference personally, he assured the delegation of his support and stated that he would be duly represented at the event.
In her remarks, Mrs. Betty Jobaido further explained the activities and areas of intervention of the Impact Initiative for Youth Mentorship (IIYM), noting that the organisation is committed to providing professional counselling services on a pro-bono basis, particularly to young people and communities requiring guidance and support. She explained that the organisation also undertakes mentorship and counselling programmes in remote communities and educational institutions, particularly schools, as part of its efforts to guide young people, build their resilience, promote positive values and reduce their vulnerability to crime, social vices and other negative influences.
She further explained that the organisation is willing to work with relevant stakeholders, including the Police, in promoting crime prevention, youth engagement, public safety awareness and community security. She particularly highlighted the importance of adequate security arrangements for programmes involving visiting diplomats and other distinguished international guests, noting that effective collaboration with the Police would contribute significantly to the safety and success of such engagements.
The delegation also presented a commemorative birthday frame to the AIG as a gesture of goodwill and appreciation following his birthday. The visit concluded with a group photograph.
The leadership of FCID Annex, Lagos, reaffirms its commitment to strategic partnerships and initiatives that promote youth empowerment, responsible citizenship, professional mentorship, crime prevention, community safety and a more secure society.
