WE WILL ADEQUATELY REWARD HARD WORK – COMMISSIONER

The Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, has reiterated the commitment of the State Government to reward hard work.

Speaking during her impromptu visit to the ongoing induction ceremony for newly recruited teachers, the Commissioner affirmed that the State Government is taking steps to ensure that hardworking officers in the State Civil Service are recognised, rewarded and promoted.

In her words: “We want a situation where promotions can be determined, not necessarily by the number of years you have put in, but through your hard work”.

“I must also congratulate you for choosing teaching as a profession. I believe that you have opted for the best job anywhere because you will be saddled with the task of transforming and changing lives”, she enthused

In her opening remarks, the Chairman, Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mrs. Olabisi Ariyo, dwelt extensively on the need to have the right attitude to work and be determined to be the best as teachers with a penchant to make a difference in the education sector of the State.

She said: “You can be whatever you want to be; you can also be the best. You must make efforts, you must be determined to be counted among the best. God has given you all the innate tendencies to be the best, so it is left for you to make up your mind and rise above any challenge in the course of your career with the Lagos State Government”.

The Chairman enjoined the officers to put in their best to guarantee that they deserve the appointments, saying: “To whom much is given, much is expected. And for you to make the difference, you must rise above board, you must be exemplary, you must be determined and focused”.

Mrs. Ariyo noted that the State Government is determined to ensure that teachers are properly trained, as such they should also be abreast with new trends and techniques in the profession in order to be at par with new developments.

Also speaking at the event, Commissioner III on the Board of TESCOM, Mrs. Sidikat Titilayo Smith, pointed out that the State Teaching Service is currently the best in Nigeria, especially going by the results released across the federation last year which rated it as the best.

“We want to continue with the trend so we are imploring you to educate your students properly so that we can always get the best from them”, she asserted.

Recall that the first batch of the induction ceremony for newly recruited education officers started a week ago.
