Road Accident: Paul Edoh Writes Apa-Agatu lawmaker.

By. Mark Uloko

An Abuja Based Social Right Critics Paul Edoh Writes the Honourable Member Representing the Good People of Apa-agatu Federal Constituency on the need to drew the attention of the Federal Government on the danger the Agatu-Oweto Federal high way without speed bumps possess on his people.

The PDP lawmaker who recently clock 100 days in office also double as, house committee chairman inland water ways in the 10th Assembly was reported not to have responded to the first letter the concerned Nigerian wrote to him on this same issue while this allege incident continued unabated.

The second letter authored by Edoh reflects the constituency’s major concern which involves life and property.

Recall that; the federal high way linking the north and the south eastern states was commissioned by Government of Former President Mohammedu Buhari, amidst fun fare due to it’s economic and developmental importance to the people, but reality is down on the people of Apa-agatu as the well constructed road now turn dead trap.

Edoh who is deeply concerned on the danger the road without speed bumps posses highlighted the significant of having speed bumps on the federal high way, and however appeal to the lawmaker to do the needful.

The open letter further reads;

Dear Distinguished
Honourable Member representing the good people of Apa-Agatu Federal constituency of Benue state,

It is with all sense of responsibility, that I wish to remind you of the request I made about the state of incessant accident on the Federal Highway that cut across our dear Federal Constituency.

I wish to appeal to you to use this time of recess to listen to our cry once again. think another convenient time to bring this to you again is now that you are on recess, to enable you, study, conduct research and probably come up with the best possible ways in solving this issue. I hope the many constructive feedbacks and constant scrutiny on our local government platforms (Apa-Agatu Liberation movement and voice of Apa-Agatu ) is perceived as necessary to bath a safe & healthy administration that will transform our constituency.

Honourable member, I want you to know, that the high rate of fatal accidents on the Agatu-Oweto road in our Federal Constituency occasioned by over-speeding and reckless driving has been a source of concern to us in recent months.
Our constituents has suffered fatal road accidents leading to lost of lives and property. Most of these catastrophes are reportedly caused by hit-and-run drivers plying this highway.

Sometimes in 2021, two (2) fuel tankers, fully loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) has a double-dodge at Oshigbudu along the highway which caused explosion, resulted in the lost of lives and property worth hundreds of Millions of Naira.

All these are a result of reckless over-speeding through the towns/villages by motorists. The very good and well-constructed Agatu-Oweto road, which serves as a means of social development that will bring about progress for the people of Apa and Agatu local government areas, has turned out to be a death-trap for many constituents.

Those terrible accidents are just a few amongsts other several vehicular accidents that happens almost on a daily basis along the same road. The adverse effects of these accidents include:

√ Persistent loss of lives; and

√ Destruction of properties worth hundreds of Millions of Naira (houses, shops, goods, fuel stations, etc.)

✓ Environmental Pollution.

I am very optimistic, that if speed-breakers are erected on this very good and well-constructed road, fatal vehicular accidents resulting from over-speeding through towns/villages will be considerably curtailed and brought to the barest minimum. Many lives will be saved, and valuable properties preserved.
Honourable, if this trend is allowed to continue, only God knows who are the next victims.

I appreciate the efforts of the Federal Government for the completion of the road, linking Benue state to other neighboring South-East and South-South states.

I kindly request a timely response in addressing this specific issue raised in this letter at your earliest convenience.

Furthermore, I urge you to engage your colleagues, by raising this as a Motion of Urgent National Importance on the floor of the 10th Assembly, drawing the attention of the Federal Government to our plights, or else we will all perish over these avoidable errors.

I hope that the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will fulfill his constitutional duty of safeguarding the lives and property of Apa/Agatu constituents on the highway if this is brought to his notice through you.

While looking forward to seeing you take this up, I am thanking and assuring you, that all your constituents will give you the needed support to make your tenure a successful one.
I have deliberately kept my letter brief.

Signed:
Paul G. Edoh II,
