POLARIS BANK EMPOWERS RIVERS STATE JOURNALISTS IN ONLINE JOURNALISM TRAINING –

The need for practicing journalists in Nigeria to acquire latest technique in averting “Fake News” has been tackled with a One –day training programme organized by the Management of Polaris bank Ltd Lagos. The Port Harcourt edition of the programme was conducted on Monday 3rdof June, 2019 at Jevinik restaurant’s Event Centre 57 Tombia Street GRA Phase 2 Port Harcourt in Rivers state Nigeria.

www.towncrier.ng Managing Editor Emeka Amaefula participated in the training which had Mr. Rasheed Bolarinwa Head Corporate Comm. Lagos was in attendance and coordinated the training while Mr. Ndumeche Ezurike Head Strategic Brand management Lagos admonished practicing journalists to embrace the new knowledge they have acquired from the training to improve on their jobs for the benefit of the society at large as Polaris Bank Ltd has this as Corporate Social Responsibility—CSR with the presence of Mr. George Gabriel-Whyte Business Development Manager Port Harcourt was actively involved in the training programme.

The facilitator Mr. Taiwo Obey Founder and Director The Journalism Clinic took the 16 selected senior Bureau Chiefs in South-South of Nigeria with the theme: “Online Journalism In the era of “Fake News”.

Before now the training programme had been held at Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt Rivers state based became the latest beneficiaries of the Online Media training.

The journalists were drilled on the tools of dictating ‘Fake News’ and equipped to comply with the ethical values of Code of Conducts of journalism practice which makes facts sacred in a changing world where citizen journalism is trending.

Mr. Obey in his presentation told journalists to always make sure that they observe all the facts in every news story before publication as failure to do so may lead to dire consequences and sanctions from news-makers and employers as well as the reputation and credibility of the news outfit may suffer.
