Plateau: 29 killed in road crashes in 8 months – FRSC

The Plateau Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, on Thursday said 29 people were killed in Road Traffic Crashes, RTCs, in the state between January and August.

Mr Alphonsus Samuel, the Sector Commander in the state disclosed this while flagging-off the Corps’ ‘2023 Ember Months Campaign’ on Thursday in Jos.

According to him, 169 RTCs were recorded in the state with 124 people injured within the period under review.

”Between January and August this year, we recorded 167 RTCs in Plateau.

”29 persons were killed while 124 others sustained various degrees of injuries,” he said.

Samuel attributed the crashes to speeding, overloading, dangerous overtaking and reckless driving.

On the flag-off, the sector commander said it was aimed at sensitising motorists on the need to obey traffic rules and regulations in view of the high vehicular movements during the season.

He advised drivers to desist from overloading, speeding, night driving and and other dangerous practices on the road.

Speaking at the programme, Governor Caleb Mutfwang reiterated the commitment of the state government to making all roads in the state motorable.

Represented by Mr Sam Jatau, Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mutfwang also promised to revive Plateau Express Service to provide affordable transportation to the citizens.
