OSSG PREACHES COMPLIANCE TO PHYSICAL PLANNING LAWS AT STAKEHOLDERS’ PARLEY

The Office of the State Surveyor-General (OSSG) has joined other Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the Physical Planning sector in sensitising stakeholders on the need for compliance with physical planning laws to avert danger to lives and property in Lagos State.

Addressing the forum, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Folasade Jaji, said the event was put together to outline measures necessary for voluntary compliance and adherence to physical planning regulations.

Sanwo-Olu urged members of the public to report illegal and defective building developments that pose threat to the lives and property of Lagos residents, saying the re-occurrence of building collapse has been a cause for concern to the government.

In his contribution during the forum organised by the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPA), the Permanent Secretary/Surveyor-General (OSSG), Surv. Olutomi Sangowawa, said the interactive platform was initiated to define, in clear terms, the requirements for abiding with physical planning laws, the advantages of voluntary compliance and the benefits to residents and the State at large.

Surv. Sangowawa said the Government decided to engage home and property owners on issues that will reduce the payment of fines or penalties once residents abide by the information and terms provided at the gathering.

His words: “The essence of the compliance is for the growth of infrastructural development in Lagos. All stakeholders must shun the patronage of unregistered surveyors in all transactions relating to compliance with physical planning laws. When in doubt, it is essential that inquiries are made at the Office of the State Surveyor-General for guidance on the process. The office, as professional practitioners, will guide the public every step of the way on all survey matters”.

Maintaining that the doors of the office of the State Surveyor-General are always open for professional advice, Sangowawa said the team is always ready to provide seamless and quality service to the public.
