NATIONAL YOUTH GAMES: LAGOS TOPS TABLE AT SOUTHWEST ZONAL ELIMINATION FOR TEAM SPORTS

… As Final Phase of Summer Camp Kicks off at Teslim Balogun Stadium

 

Team Lagos has continued its dominance of Southwest sports competitions by qualifying to represent the zone in six team sports at the just concluded elimination event hosted by Oyo State at the Ilaji Sports Resort in Akanran Area, Ona-Ara Local Government in Oyo State.

 

Receiving the Team Lagos on arrival from Ibadan at the Alagomeji Train Terminal in Yaba, the Director-General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Oluwatoyin Gafaar, commended all members of the team for their impressive performance the event, saying “The results at the Zonal Elimination in Ibadan is not bad. We are happy that you came first among the participating teams”.

 

“For the forthcoming National Youth Games proper in Ilorin, we are ready and we just need to improve. We are going to start our preparation in earnest. We really want to thank Mr. Governor for the interest he has shown for sports in Lagos State, through his immense support to the Commission and athletes”, he noted.

 

At the Southwest zonal elimination competition in Ibadan, the Oyo Team came second by winning four Team Sports, Team Osun and Team Ogun were placed 3rd and 4th respectively, winning two Team Sports each.

 

Team Lagos, which came tops at the elimination event, will participate in Male Handball, Hockey and Rugby as well as in Female Football, Volleyball and Handball sports at the 6th National Youths Games scheduled to hold in Ilorin Kwara State from 10th – 20th October, 2021.

 

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Sports Commission has kicked off the last phase of the Lagos Sports Summer Camp at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, with 120 children participating in 60% Sports and 40% soft skills during the weeklong event.
