LASTVEB HOLDS TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, INSTRUCTORS OF GOVERNMENT TECHNICAL COLLEGES

The Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board (LASTVEB) has kicked off an Outcome-Based Education Training for teachers in all the Government Technical Colleges in Lagos State at the Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC), Magodo.

The Executive Secretary of LASTVEB, Ms. Moronke Azeez, who declared the training open, reiterated that the major reason for continuous training for teachers and instructors is to improve the quality of teaching strategies and methods to achieve outstanding learning outcomes.

She described outcome-based education training as a system of education that gives priority to purpose, accomplishments and results of curriculum assessment and instruction driven by learning outcomes.

According to her, “Continuous training of Instructors and Administrators whether in Trade, Administration, Craft and other Technical areas is done to achieve the best and to encourage teachers’ development”.

She appreciated the effort of the West African Vocational Education (WAVE) for supporting quality Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET), revealing that WAVE has been supporting expert TVET Facilitators to achieve quality deliverables and learning outcomes easy to cascade down to other teachers.

She informed that LASTVEB continues to organise Outcome-Based Education Training for Teachers because the government wants the best for the education sector to ensure existing colleges fulfill their purpose where students are properly taught and monitored.

Azeez, therefore, advised the participants to continue to improve themselves, especially in the area of Information Technology and make sure they teach students how to pick references from the internet in order to improve information flow from instructors to students.

She appreciated the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for supporting the training and retraining of Instructors in Technical Colleges to ensure only the best is good enough for the Education Sector.

However, the Executive Secretary urged teachers to reflect on their roles in deepening knowledge as the intention of LASTVEB is to become the Harvard of technical education in Nigeria.

In his contribution, the Director of Educational Planning and Development, LASTVEB, Mr. Olaniran Ogunsiji, noted that TVET experts have been facilitating the training in the last three years to ensure that instructors are very effective in their jobs.

The Outcome-Based Education Training is a three-day programme designed to enhance the knowledge of teachers toward becoming more effective on the job and by extension improve the quality of education taught to students.
