LASPARK REWARDS WINNERS OF Y2021 TREE PLANTING DAY ART COMPETITION

The Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) has fulfilled its promise of rewarding winners of the Y2021 Lagos State “Tree Planting Day Online Art Competition” organised for young children between the ages of four and 12 years old.

The General Manager of LASPARK, Mrs. Adetoun Popoola, who presented the various prizes to the winners at a brief presentation ceremony held at LASPARK’S office in Ikeja, congratulated the winners while appreciating the efforts of all the young children who participated in the contest. She urged them to always be of good behaviour and continue to project their respective schools in a positive light.

Her words: “In the weeks preceding the Year 2021 Lagos State Tree Planting Day, held on July 14, 2021, we asked children between the ages of four to 12 years old to produce a piece of art (Painting, Drawing, Collage etc) based on the theme of the Tree Planting Day – Restore and Recover”.

“The competition created an avenue for these young lads to showcase their talents. We believe the contest was fun, educative and challenging but sadly, many of the participants did not follow the rules as stated”, she said.

The General Manager disclosed that 56 entries were received, noting that winners were selected after a very difficult evaluation and consideration process.

She listed the winners of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions as Sumayyah Oyinkansola Olowu (12 years old), Adetola Oluwaseun Adegbite (Seven years old) and Isreal Oloniliyi (Four years) respectively.

Other consolation prize winners, according to her, include Chinwen Peace Ogboh (Nine years old), Iteoluwakishi Mary Ogunyemi (Eight years old), Oluwatofunmi Akinyamoju (Nine years old), Ademide Ifeoluwa Adegite (Nine years old), Seyifunmi Oyelakin Ojebanji (Eight years old), Darasimi Subair (Nine years old) and Ayomide Maseyi (12 years old).

Popoola stated that the competition was in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s resolve to engage children, teenagers and young adults in other curriculum activities outside the four walls of the school environment.

Prizes given to the winners are Samsung Tablets and one-year Readland Subscription, LASPARK’S branded bags with face caps and T-Shirts, Knapsacks with notepads and hand sanitisers, A book titled “Wangari mother of Trees” and a set of gardening tools.
