LASODA EDUCATES PLWDs ON ‘ILERA EKO’ HEALTH INSURANCE SCHEME

The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has organised a sensitisation programme to educate People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) on the benefits of the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme, popularly known as ‘Illera Eko’, initiated to make healthcare delivery accessible to all residents.

Speaking at the event held recently at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium Alausa-Secretariat, Ikeja, the General Manager of the Agency, Mr. Oluwadamilare Ogundairo, implored PLWDs to take advantage of the scheme created by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration as part of its inclusive governance towards ensuring that everyone has access to the affordable healthcare system.

He explained that the scheme will afford subscribers the opportunity to enjoy some of the immense benefits inherent in the health insurance scheme, stressing that the State Government has continued to evolve policies and programmes that are beneficial to all residents, therefore PLWDs must enrol on the scheme to avoid marginalisation.

Ogundairo averred that LSODA is committed to protecting and enhancing the welfare of all PLWDs in Lagos, imploring stakeholders in the disability community to always take advantage of the numerous opportunities provided by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration across all sectors through various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the State Government.

While urging all participants to register with LASHMA, Ogundairo reiterated that the scheme was put in place by the State Government to provide affordable and quality healthcare services for all residents in Lagos State regardless of status, gender and disability in line with its inclusiveness policy.

The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, represented by Dr. Tolu Ajomale, Head of Special Projects, said the Lagos State Health Scheme (Ilera Eko) is focused on providing equal access to healthcare services for every Lagos resident.

According to him, “The insurance scheme will create a platform for many persons with special needs to be able to access affordable healthcare in private and public hospitals in all Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas of the State”.

Also speaking, Mr. Olusegun Braimoh, Marketing Officer, Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), said the Ilera Eko social health insurance plan is a basic health insurance plan consisting of primary and secondary benefits under the mandatory Lagos State Health Scheme.

His words: “The new health standard plan, which aims at easing the burden of residents from huge medical bills, costs N8500 annually for individual and N40,000 annually for a family that includes principal, spouse and four children less than 23 years old. While the pay-small-small payment option is N12,000 for individuals, the N42,000 annually is for a family – principal, spouse and four children less than 23 years old”.

“The Health Insurance Plan covers various ailments including eye care, family planning services, child welfare services, hospital care and admission, pharmaceutical care, chronic disease, clinical chemistry, diagnostic radiological investigations, dental care, cancer treatment of early stages 1-2 and child care cancer among others”, he added.
