LASG REVIEWS SAFETY REGULATIONS, POLICIES FOR SAFER LAGOS
The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Dr. Tajudeen Gaji, has expressed the present administration’s commitment to the wellbeing of residents, through the continuous review of all safety regulations and policies.
Dr. Gaji disclosed this at a stakeholders’ engagement for the review of the proposed Lagos State Safety Commission regulation programme with the theme: “Safety Regulations and Policies: A Review Towards Creating a Safer Lagos”, held at Oriental Hotel, Lekki recently.
He maintained that the engagement became necessary in order to review laws made on safety regulations, especially due to changes in circumstances over time and increased population, adding that obsolete safety laws can no longer be used to ensure the safety of the residents.
“The effort of the Safety Commission in organising the event is highly commendable and in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda of the present administration in ensuring strict enforcement of safety rules and guidelines that are geared towards making the workplace safe and hazard-free”, Gaji said.
The Permanent Secretary assured that the State Government will continue to work tirelessly to make Lagos safe and secure for all residents by developing a safety system that responds to all emergencies.
In his welcome address, the Director-General, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, stressed that it is imperative to review existing safety regulations, noting that great Nations are built by having strong rules and regulations, not strong personalities, hence stringent regulations must be instituted to ensure a safer Lagos.
Mojola emphasised that his agency will continue to engage, educate and regulate stakeholders towards ensuring zero accident, injury and fatality in all areas, pointing out that more than 9,500 safety event clearances had been issued by the Commission since the beginning of the year.
He maintained that the Commission will keep spreading the message of safety, saying that “it is only a Safer Lagos that can guarantee the attainment of a Greater Lagos”.
Stakeholders, including representatives of the Ministry of Justice, Law Reform and Safety Advocate Professionals, among others, deliberated on the review of safety regulations and policies towards achieving a safer Lagos.
