LASG INAUGURATES TECHNICAL COMMITTEE ON IBEJU-LEKKI MODEL CITY PLAN

The Lagos State Government has inaugurated the technical committee of civil servants to work with consultants on the preparation of the Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, speaking during the inauguration of the committee in Alausa recently, said that it became expedient to give Ibeju-Lekki a functional development plan, considering the economic potential of the axis.

He explained that despite its vital economic promises, Ibeju-Lekki was not until now covered by any development plan dedicated to its spatial and sectoral development but subsumed under the Epe Master Plan and Lekki Comprehensive Master Plan.

“Given recent developments in the area, Ibeju-Lekki is obviously the emerging growth pole that is capable of catapulting Lagos State from fifth to the second largest economy in Sub-Saharan Africa”, he said.

Salako noted that the administration of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu decided to pull out Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan from Lekki Comprehensive Master Plan to proactively plan for the sustainable development of the axis over the next 20 years and forestall the abnormal situation of a plan having to chase development.

He enjoined members of the technical committee to work assiduously towards realising the objectives of preparing the plan while also urging them to make their experiences in the service count in form of meaningful inputs to the process.

The Commissioner also called on the Consultants, MOA Planners Limited, to deliver an enduring plan and incorporate the excision layout for various land-holding families in the area.

Speaking on behalf of the Consultants, Tpl. Moses Ogunleye expressed the desire to work with members of the technical committee as credible information sources of their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
