LASG ENGAGES STAKEHOLDERS ON MAIYEGUN- LEKKI BEACH ROAD

The Lagos Government has engaged stakeholders on the reconstruction of Maiyegun/Lekki Beach Road in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area to ensure the smooth and successful execution of the project. 

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, assured stakeholders at the forum with a commitment that the Lagos State Government remains focused to ensure that dividends of democracy are extended to the fast-growing corridor of the State.

He promised enhanced connectivity, promotion of leisure and tourism, through ease of access to the renowned beach resort, and sought the input and cooperation of residents.

In his words: “Our conversation today will centre on the modalities to be adopted for a hitch-free commencement of the project including the delivery of the Right of Way and the expected roles from all stakeholders, especially those with property within the Right of Way of the proposed road rehabilitation and upgrading project in the Lekki Beach axis”.

The Commissioner noted statutory notices will be served and affected property marked by members of staff of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, just as valuation exercises would be conducted by officers of the Lands Bureau before the removal of all encroaching structures commences.

Reiterating that the government’s ultimate aim is to develop the State and make life more meaningful to the teeming population, Dr. Salako advised residents to always avoid encroaching the Right of Way of public infrastructure and other public spaces.

He stated that the Lagos State Government has instituted a free Planning Information Service to guide developers and property owners in determining the approved use of land for any proposed site in order to prevent encroachment.

The Commissioner stated further that Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has directed that all affected owners of property within the Right of Way of public projects in the State should be considered for compensation, assuring that those to be affected by the Maiyegun/Lekki Beach Road project will not be an exception.


In his address, the Honourable Chairman, House Committee on Physical Planning, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Nureni Akinsanya, congratulated the people of Maiyegun/Lekki Beach Road and urged them to cooperate with the contractor, Craneburg Construction Company Limited, and support the Lagos State Government to ensure the timely completion of the project.

The People of Maiyegun/Lekki Beach Road expressed their happiness and pledged their support for the project but appealed to the State Government to expedite action on the issue of compensation.
