LASG COMMISSIONS RENOVATED OKEGUN-ODOFIN COMMUNITY PRIMARY SCHOOL

Lagos State Government has commissioned the renovated Okegun-Odofin Community Primary School, Ibeju Lekki, which was sponsored by the One Community At A Time (OCAAT) initiative of the Office of Secretary to the State Government.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Folashade Jaji, said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Executive Council gave OCAAT approval to intervene in some communities deprived of basic amenities to actualise the State’s T.H.E.M.E.S. Development Agenda.

She said before embarking on the project, OCAAT engaged the Okegun-Odofin Community on what project is of utmost importance to them and it was agreed that the immediate rehabilitation of the only Primary School in the Community was a top priority.

She explained that the essence of the intervention is to create a conducive environment for teaching and learning and with the approval of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Hamzat, the project was started without delay in line with the commitment of the State government to the education sector.

Her words: “The rehabilitation and renovation of the school included the construction of 2.4-meter high fence for the School compound occupying five plots of land; gate and security house; roofing, skidding of all floors; lighting and construction of stair cases for the nursery pupils among others”.

While stressing that a play area was also provided for the pupils, Jaji commended the Contractor, Arc. Gbenga Agbaje, for the completion of the project on schedule, particularly with the heavy downpour being experienced lately, and the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for prompt supply of desks and chairs to the school.

The SSG also applauded the Head Teacher, the Baale and other Community leaders for their support in ensuring the successful completion of the project, imploring them to protect the school so that the infrastructure is not destroyed or removed by anyone.

The Head Teacher of the School, Mrs. Edith Lawani, speaking on behalf of the pupils and staff, expressed gratitude to Mr. Governor, OCAAT and SUBEB for the transformation of the school.

The dignitaries present at the event included the Permanent Secretary, Office of Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Tolani Oshodi; SUBEB Board member, Mr. Dayo Israel; Secretary, Ibeju-Lekki Local Council Development Area, Mr. Semiu Waliu; Special Adviser to the Governor on Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission Matters, Engr. Adekunle Olayinka and the OCAAT team and members of the Community.
