The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), has reiterated its commitment to ensure that the rights of consumers in the State are protected from the sales of hazardous products and all forms of unfair trade practices.

The General Manager of LASCOPA, Mrs. Kemi Olugbode gave the commitment today during a sensitisation campaign organised by the Agency on the rights of consumers and held at the Ojota Motor Park in Lagos.

Addressing participants at the event, the General Manager noted that the sensitisation campaign themed, “Do You know You Have Consumer Rights”, was aimed at educating consumers on their rights.

According to Olugbode, the Law that established the Agency also empowers it to prosecute Businesses, Manufacturers, Companies and Traders that violate the rights of consumers through the conscious sale of unwholesome products or unfair trade practices.

She said that the Agency recently opened an annexe in Ikorodu to bring its services closer to the grassroots, disclosing that LASCOPA intends to have offices in every Local Government and Local Council Development Area of the State so as to ensure that the rights of consumers, especially those at the grassroots are well protected.

While thanking the participants and stakeholders for their support, Olugbode charged them to take advantage of the existence of LASCOPA to lodge any complaint they might have on infringement of their rights as consumers of goods or services, stressing that the services of the Agency are free.

In his remarks, the Deputy Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW Lagos Chapter, Comrade Babatope Olowookere, commended the State Government for setting up the Agency for the protection of consumer rights, assuring the LASCOPA team of the Union’s support towards the achievement of its mandate.
