As part of measures to boost access to improved consumer-rights protection services, the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has concluded plans to establish more divisional offices across the Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas of the State.

The General Manager, LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo Esq, disclosed this in his address during a courtesy to the Chairman, Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA, Mr. Fuad Atanda Lawal, explaining that the Agency intends to further protect residents by taking consumer rights closer to people at the grassroots.

In his words: “Additional offices would be established across the various Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) in the State before the end of year to further give residents equal access and opportunity to exercise their rights as consumers of products and services”.

Solebo said: “Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) was established by Law in 2015 with the mandate to ensure that consumers get value for their money and also protect them from hazardous and substandard products and services”.

“We are always ready to protect the consumers against all forms of unfair trade practices. Consumers can contact the Agency to lodge complaints through our various means of communication, including emails, social media handles, petitions or they can walk into any of our offices across the State to lodge complaints”. LASCOPA boss added.

The General Manager explained that the aim of the courtesy visit was to solicit support and request for office space within the LCDA in order to achieve some of LASCOPA’s core mandates, bring consumer protection closer to the grassroots and ensure that consumers of products and services get value for money spent on purchasing any product and service.

He disclosed that the Agency had helped many Lagosians to recover more than N136 million for unfair trade practices as well as hazardous and substandard products ranging from Automobiles, Insurance, Bank Transaction issues, Electrical /Electronics, Aviation and Telecommunication amongst others.

Responding, the Chairman of Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA thanked the management of LASCOPA for the visit, expressing his desire to partner and work with any Agency of the State Government to achieve the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s administration.

He affirmed his Council’s commitment towards ensuring that LASCOPA gets office accommodation to promote the activities and programmes of the Agency, just as he promised to put its activities on the LCDA’s official website to create more awareness on consumer rights within the community.

Solebo was accompanied during the visit by the management staff of the Agency including the Board Secretary, Mrs. Arinola Momoh-Ayokanmbi.
