LAGOS TO ENGAGE YOUTHS ON DIGITAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP, TALENT HUNT

The Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, in conjunction with Digital Age Consultants Limited, has concluded plans to kick-start a digital entrepreneurship skills training and mentorship for unemployed youths as well as a community talent hunt in the 57 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas.

The Honourable Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs. Yetunde Arobieke, disclosed the development at a Press Conference organised to formally notify the public about the initiative, stating that it is part of the present administration’s drive to engage the youths and address unemployment in Lagos.

Arobieke noted that the move is part of the numerous initiatives embarked upon by the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to engage youths, curb restlessness and other social vices, especially at the community level, stressing that the initiative will unearth hidden talents and also nurture and develop the potentials of the youth population.

The Commissioner maintained that the programme will also help to reduce the unemployment indices in the State, noting that youths within the ages of 18-35 have lots of energy and if not well harnessed, might snowball into social vices.

Her words: “The present administration has been unrelenting in the drive to ensure that our youths are adequately engaged and ready for a future workforce. This initiative is put together to discover talent in diverse fields and develop digital entrepreneurship skills. It will cover youths between the ages of 18-35”.

“This is an opportunity for all our youths at the community level to leverage on this initiative as we are ready to help harness your dream and bring it to optimal attainment through productive engagement”, she said.

Mrs. Arobieke also disclosed that the Ministry is in consultation with the various LG and LCDA Chairmen on establishing a wealth centre in every locality headed by a wealth coordinator, who will be a channel between the Ministry and the LG/LCDA, and saddled with the task of mobilising the youths at various engagements and fora.

The Commissioner revealed that the Ministry has been given marching orders by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to go down into the nooks and crannies of the State and engage the youths at the community level to harness their skills for proper use in their immediate environment.

She, therefore, implored youths to take advantage of the laudable initiatives set up by the State Government in the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

Dr. Debola Ogunnusi of Digital Age Consultants Ltd disclosed that youths will be engaged at the local level to turn their inherent talents into businesses.
