LAGOS LEADS IN YOUTH-ORIENTED PROGRAMMES IN NIGERIA – COMMISSIONER
The Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Segun Dawodu, has declared that the huge investments of Lagos State in engaging youths in life-transforming programmes and projects have paid off with the emergence of Azeezat Yishawu, a former Speaker of the State Youth Parliament, as the first female Speaker of National Youth Parliament.
Dawodu made this known during a courtesy visit to his office by the first female Speaker of the National Youth Parliament, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Azeezat Yishawu, to express her gratitude to the State Government for the support given to her during the electioneering campaign for the position of Speaker.
The visibly elated Commissioner said, “We give thanks to God for making your dream a reality during my tenure. I want to commend you for your doggedness, determination and demonstration of the knowledge and leadership skills you acquired while you were Speaker of the Lagos State Youth Parliament”.
He, however, advised the Speaker not to rest on her oars but to collàborate with persons and organisations that can enhance her capacity to deliver on her mandate.
In her remarks, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Azeezat Yishawu said that her emergence as the first female Speaker of the National Youth Parliament was made possible by the series of programmes on leadership training and self-development that she had while serving as Speaker of Lagos Youth Parliament.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Olugbenga Ayoola Aina; Director, Youth Department, Mr. Femi Adetoye and Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria (Lagos Chapter), Comrade Biliaminu Oba, also commended the Speaker for making the youths in Lagos proud, urging her to operate an open-door policy in order to carry all the youths along.
Besides being the first Female Speaker of the National Youth Parliament, Azeezat Yishawu is a Medical Doctor with over four years experience in grassroots mobilisation, citizen engagement as well as the 12th Speaker of Lagos Youth Parliament.
