LAGOS INDUCTS 76 NEW OFFICERS

The Lagos State Public Service Office has organised an induction ceremony for 76 new officers comprising 53 Administrative and Human Resource officers, 17 Executive officers and six officers on Transfer of Service to the mainstream civil service.

In his address at the induction programme, the Lagos State Head of Service (HoS), Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, said the training was essential for the officers to be abreast of civil service matters, expectations on conversion or transfer of service and provision of essential information about their new career paths.

He said: “Every officer is expected to be conversant with the tenets of the civil service rules, financial regulations, performance as an administrative and human resource officer, human resource management in the public service, the five divisions in human resource management, various guidelines on administrative procedures in the civil service, report writing submission and effective communication in the civil service as well as the preparation of personnel budget”.

Muri-Okunola, represented at the event by the Director, Service Matters, Office of Head of Service, Mrs. Sunkanmi Oyegbola, enjoined the officers to fully participate in the various discussions and deliberations as this would help in their new postings.

In his remarks, the Director, Welfare Matters, Office of the Head of Service, Mr. Richard Ogbe, said the inductees must be conversant with memo and report writing, submissions and must be able to communicate effectively.

He emphasised that the induction session will enlighten the newly converted or transferred officers about ethics of the Civil Service as well as the qualities needed to prevent errors that could put their careers in jeopardy.

Ogbe further charged the participants to take the session seriously and put everything learned into practice, just as they avail themselves the opportunity to imbibe the tenets that would make them add value to the system.

The Chief Administration and Human Resource Officer in the Service Matters Directorate, Mrs. Moyosore Akamo, said the programme was designed to sensitise the inductees on the rudiments of their new cadre.

She enjoined the newly inducted officers to learn the skills for good administrative practices which include writing submissions, letters, reports and, most importantly, smartness to avoid being outdone by other cadres.

A cross-section of participants at the event acknowledged that the training imparted knowledge on self-confidence, charisma, appropriate dressing, punctuality, timeliness, efficiency and effective service delivery.

The participants were presented with certificates of induction after the programme.
