Ifetedo Olojo Festival set to hold Oct 9, as Oba Akinola Latiri reveals plans

The Olojo Festival is an ancient festival celebrated annually in Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. This festival is one of the popular festival in the Yoruba land, and significantly known as a festival that celebrates the Black race all over the world.

Apparently, not so many know that the festival is also celebrated in the neighbouring parts of Ife land, due to popularity of the main Olojo festival that holds in Ile-Ife which is known as the cradle of the Yoruba race.

Meanwhile, as it stands, the forthcoming Ifetedo Olojo Festival may have just come to set a tone of prominence to what many seemed not to be aware of.

Kabiyesi, Olubosin of Ifetedo kingdom, HRM Oba Akinola Akinrera Latiiri 1 in an interview with Prime Events Magazine, revealed that Olojo festival is like any other festivals celebrated in Ile Ife is celebrated annually across the entire Ife land especially, Okeigbo, Ifewara and Ifetedo.

This according to him, is because the people of the three towns mentioned above are from Ile Ife.

“We have our roots in Ile Ife and that is why you will notice that many of the Streets in Ile Ife also exist in Okeigbo, Ifewara and Ifetedo,” he said.

The forthcoming Ifetedo Olojo festival intends to feature Cultural display, Cultural dance, Ewi, Ijala Ode and other activities on the sideline of the event.

The monarch also disclosed that, “The climax of the festival will be the appearance in the public with “Are” the sacred traditional crown by Kabiyesi, Olubosin of Ifetedo kingdom, HRM Oba Akinola Akinrera Latiiri 1 and his movement from his Palace across the town to “Oke Mogun ” where sacrifice and prayers will be offered to “Ogun ” the god of iron. There will be prayer for peace and progress of the town and her people at home and diaspora.”

Aside from Olojo Festival, Ifetedo people do celebrate Aluku, Obatala, Oro, Egungun, Edi on annual basis

Leading a host of traditional rulers to the festival is Arole Oodua, His Imperial Majesty, Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, Ooni of Ife who is also the Royal Father of the day,

The Special Guest of honour is Hon (Prince) Adebayo Adeleke Banik. Commissioner for Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs, State of Osun.

Other Guest of honour include: Hon (Sooko) Lawal Tajudeen,
Commissioner for Home Affairs, State of Osun and Hon (Evang) Adeosun Rasaki
Special Adviser to the governor on Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs, State of Osun.

Heading the committee planning to make the event a memorable one is Chief Rasheed Alani Adedapo, alongside his Secretary, Chief Tunde Ogundoju and a host of other members of the team.
