GENERAL HOSPITAL IJEDE SOLICITS STAKEHOLDERS’ SUPPORT, HARPS ON QUALITY CARE

General Hospital Ijede has solicited partnership, improved support and cooperation from its host community and other stakeholders, especially on land donation for the needed expansion of the facility.

The Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Abimbola Sunday Okudero, made the request at the hospital’s fourth Stakeholders Forum held at Ijede Local Council Development Area Secretariat Hall.

According to him, the essence of the request for land donation, particularly the ones in close proximity to its present location, is for the expansion of the hospital towards improving the quality of care rendered to clients. He added that the project is essential to meet the needs of the community and surpass the expectations of patients.

“The Hospital currently sits on a 370ft and 186ft expanse of land and has resorted to modifying and restructuring its existing structure to accommodate more patients due to lack of available land for needed expansion”, he revealed.

Dr. Okudero informed that the theme of the forum: “Sustaining Quality Care Within Limited Space”, arose from the fact that the hospital has witnessed an influx of healthcare seekers due to the quality of services being rendered by the facility. This, he said, is a result of the state of the art equipment, qualified and experienced professionals in various fields employed by the State Government.

His words: “Statistics indicate that the citizens seek our services from far and wide. We have registered patients from Surulere, Ogijo in Ogun State and Iyana-Ipaja, among others. They have attested to the quality of service being rendered by the hospital despite the space constraints”.

While sensitising the stakeholders on the new strain of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, the Medical Director appealed to them to get vaccinated without further delay as mandated by the State Government.

He also implored all stakeholders and members of the community to continue to abide by COVID-19 protocols by wearing face masks, washing their hands regularly with soap and water, inculcating the use of alcohol-based sanitisers and maintaining physical distancing in order to curtail the spread of the virus.

“This variant has been known to be four times as deadly as the Delta Strain because the variant has about 30 different mutations”. Dr. Okudero said.

In a health talk on voluntary blood donation, the Laboratory Scientist, General Hospital, Ijede, Mr. Adeniyi Thomas Adeyinka, enlightened participants on the importance of voluntary blood donation, stressing that an adequate amount of blood is needed in all healthcare facilities to meet the urgent need of patients suffering from trauma and transfusion during a life-saving procedure.

While noting that blood donation helps patients live longer and in the early detection of Hepatitis B as well as other life-threatening diseases, Adeyinka noted that it is important to ensure that the blood bank is adequately stocked at all times.

In her goodwill message, the Executive Chairman, Ijede LCDA, Mrs. Khadijat Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, said the meeting is an annual event organised by the hospital for feedback from members of the community and stakeholders to make comments, share ideas and proffer solutions to some of the challenges being faced by the hospital.
